The team lost it's approach it has used successfully for the last two weeks or so. Hard, diiscplined, physical defense.

They beat this same team 5-2. We gave them 7 tonight and it took Campbell to get them the
point. He did well in a horrible spot B2B.

This type of hockey is loser hockey in the playoffs.

Hard to do that in a back-to-back... And that is before you consider:

1) A 38-year old Giordano is playing.
2) Muzzin is playing for the first time in a month.
3) Florida is a fast and extremely skilled team who will get their chances no matter what.

We played well for the first half of the game and then the energy just fell off, especially after that weak goal given up against Gudas. That stuff is what killed us in the playoffs countless times, and it seemed to sap the energy out of us even though we had a 3 goal lead at the time. I don't think it is as much of an issue when we have more energy in our legs.

Not sure it is wise to have that many slow, physical defensemen in our lineup against a team like Florida though. May have been a better idea to keep Muzzin out of the lineup.

I'm blaming Tavares for 63 ish minutes, not just the OT. Like he's a shell of himself. Can't control the puck, can’t make quick decisions, is practically a non-option 5v5. Everything about him is slow as molasses. And Nylander gets stuck with him all game. I understand why sometimes he can't be arsed.
Young guy picks up the slack and stop complaining the old guy is not fast.

Yeah there's this one fan, wetcoastorca I don't recall if he's an Oiler or Flames fan but he's incredibly antagonistic and then just one Panthers fan who does the typical rub it in sports fan thing. The rest on their board and main board sound a lot like the Leafs fans here. Saying *insert team is good* and they want their own team D to tighten up
Nucks fan. One and the same to be fair

I think they needed to rally and protect Campbell in that moment. Probably could have used a timeout.
100% should have used a time-out.

However, goalie swap is a time-out built-in.

The team needs to be able to swap from free-flowing all out offense to some semblance of defensive structure.

Muzzin scored but I thought kind of looked really shaky and skated with his head down a lot. Roamed around randomly and I don’t think he’s ready for workhorse minutes. Brodie also seems like he’s getting consistently worse. Beat on a lot of small plays and starting to feature more and more on this after goal closeups looking skywards. Not sure what’s up with him.

Meanwhile to lighten the mood, just saw this one on the interweb...

I loved this, would of loved it more if we won! but 3 out of 4 points in the Sunshine State, plus Boston lost in Regulation not to shabby I must say!
Definitely would've been sweeter but it was a tall ask after the way the events unfolded too. You could see the tempo change immediately after the Kallgren injury. This game is probably a coach's nightmare but for fans, it was absolutely entertainment

How many did Holl have?
3, maybe 4.

I know he was on for both ppg and at least 1 even strength goal.

I think blood was in the water after that Kallgren flub on the PP. Getting hurt after just contributes to the feeling like the circus tent was catching fire.

Anyways I'm not going to be too mad about this one. That was a back to back, 3 in 4 and 6 in 8. Keefe obviously put Muzzin back in there to see if the rest and time-off did him any good. It didn't so Keefe has no reason not to go back to Rielly-Boosh, Brodie-Holl, Gio-Lilly pairings. Kallgren let in maybe the worst goal a Leaf goalie has given up this season as well. We easily could have won that in regulation.

That gudas shorty was a killer.

But also we gave up 3 goals on the PK - not sure we've done that once all year. Bad time for it to break down.
