Regarding "Toronto is as good as a potential dynasty team now", it's worth pointing out that a lot of people, including the media covering the series, have been saying that the current Tampa squad is not as good as the previous two seasons. I agree with that, although it's hard to evaluate until the playoffs are complete. They're still very good and obviously this was a close series which wasn't decided by much.

I would like to see a bigger change to the roster but I don't expect that to happen. Assuming the core remains intact, I agree with moving out Holl. Liljegren can fill his spot just fine. I think the bottom six needs to be improved especially if we assume Mikhayaev isn't back. Simmonds is barely a NHL player at this point and should play sparingly (which is painful to say as I've been a fan throughout his career) and we can't expect Spezza to be able to do it much longer either. Hopefully one or two guys can step up whether it's Steeves as you have it, Robertson, etc.

Lets see how Tampa looks not playing Toronto, I expect them to handle Florida and which ever metro team makes it out.
I think there’s a decent opportunity to reshape the goaltending and middle 6 of this roster, which is what ultimately was the difference between Toronto and Tampa this season.
Mrazek Campbell muzzin Holl kerfoot mikheyev engvall Kase represent $21m in cap to shuffle around. Spend 8-9 on a goalie and a back up, bridge liljegren and sandin and you have $10m or so to change kerfoot Kase engvall mikheyev.

I don’t think anyone is proud or okay with losing…. It just some aren’t throwing their tvs at the wall and or suggesting a team that won 55 games and pushed the twice defending cup champs as far as they’ve been pushed in three springs needs to “blow it up” there’s obviously going to be turnover both on the ice and in guys/gals who wear suit and ties/team apparel. There always is, even in championship years you never completely run it back, but to watch this season and this 7 game series and suggest that 16 34 88 91 44 are the problems then I’m not sure what games they watched compared to me on my 75” 4K tv. It was pretty clear where they failed. And it’s not cause dubas wears non prescription glasses or because Willy was thinking about what trim he’s going to smash that night, it’s because they got SFA from the bottom of the line up and their goalie was again the second best (third actually as kallgren was solid in clean up time) in the series.
Probably looking at the coaching staff, goaltending coaching and development and pro scouting as far as management changes go, and you hope they look to change out guys like mikheyev Kase kerfoot with more Coleman’s Paul’s & Hagels.
One goal from the third line or one big stop in game 6, they win.. or a big game from soup in game 2 or 4, and they win this series in 5 not lose in 7. Heck if soup makes the stops he’s supposed to last night leafs win 1-0.

What happens against FLA is irrelevant. Judge the Leafs by how they play, not on how two other teams play each other.

One goal from the third line or one big stop in game 6, or a big game from soup in game 2 or 4, and they win this series in 5 not lose in 7. Heck if soup makes the stops he’s supposed to last night leafs win 1-0.

That's not fair. Soup's goals allowed last might matched expected goals allowed so he did his job just fine. Vasi on the other hand, his expected goals allowed was about 3.5 and he only allowed 1, that was the game right there.

Vasi wasn't great this series but in game 7, he was prime game 7 Vasi and that was that.

Game 6, phantom PP give Tampa a goal. Should've been an embellishment penalty on Foote. OT Matthews is held, Bunting elbowed, Muzzin elbowed, Holl hooked and tackled, no call on any of them, TB scores the OT winner

Game 7, TB player is literally sitting on Kampf for 10 seconds, who would be the checker on Paul, instead Paul goes up the ice without being disrupted and scores goal #1. Then goal #2 Killorn is holding Muzzin down and grabs his stick out of his hand, making him unable to check Paul, Paul scores #2. Holl sets a pick, it's immediately called no goal, Leafs on the PK. Nylander going on a breakway, gets held, no call. Nylander tripped in 3rd period when Leafs are on the PP no call

Now please tell me if I'm lying about any of those. Those plays dictated the outcomes of game 6 and 7

You do realize that every single fan for any team, whether football, basketball, hockey, whine and complain about refs? A single play can be analyzed many different ways. Listen to two different calls on the play, and you will get two different takes. To blame the refs for a team's loss is emotional, but not valid. It's the same everywhere, with all fans, including the Lightning fans. I grew up at my hockey coach father's knee, and that was one thing he instilled in his players. Play hard, play smart, follow the plan.......and.......do not get flustered by penalty calls. Get on with it. I wish fans could do the same. The Leafs did not lose because of the refs, just as Tampa did not win because of the refs. They were great games - Tampa did a bit more grinding it out and know how to close down games. Experience. The Leafs are a great team - they will bounce back and be contenders again - need a few changes here and there, but they are solid.

You know I’m a fan of the numbers and using them to gain a broad picture of what a team does or doesn’t do well, but in the moment of game 7 I really don’t care for expected anything, he was the second best goalie and that was the difference. Sometimes you need your guy to bail you out. I also do think either were Freddy five hole level of stinky, but they were both not great and stops you gotta get to win playoff rounds.

btw most of this stuff is coming from dubas fans not "Leafs" fans. I havent heard one dubasite even make mention of Holl's gaffe in Game 6 OT goal. not one!

Not one of them have called out the joke of the powerplay, no adjustments, team not showing up to play in Games 2, 4 and then turtling in Game 6 3rd period with only 4 shots on goal.

Anyways so I tell him that it must be nice getting to play a team like LA in the first round instead of Tampa. Then he says that TB sucks and LA would have crushed them in the first round. Says they're old and slow now.

My mind can't comprehend this guys idiocy. I had to get that story off my chest and would like any feedback. Should I ever talk to this person again? Should I punch him in the back of the head when he's not expecting it?

Leafs are in a difficult dead end. It's not so much that they underperformed - they gave a battle with only Game 4 as maybe the most unforgiveable no show - and normally you could be proud of that kind of series. But the sins of the past 2 years haven't been atoned for and now we're a bit delayed on who gets the chopping block. Nobody should get fired for 2022 but maybe it should have happened in 2021.
