FOR NEXT YEAR
I get that you said for next year so explain who is coming off for next year. It has to be unrestricted free agents. Please explain exactly what you mean by the statement we have 11 million cap space for next year

Just an ask from Leafs fan. Please stay off the main boards FOREVER. Fans of other teams are having a lot of fun mocking us. It's vicious. It's actually trolling but it's being allowed. That doesn't surprise me though with hfboards.

I know there's a number of Leafs fans that act like dicks and make sarcastic/idiotic comments too and that's why others are doing it. But if we all stick to Leafs threads on here we don't give them ammunition.
Honestly, the Leafs fans falsely proclaiming this team was "different" deserve every bit of shit now being thrown their way. This team had done nothing to justify their overconfidence

If we are looking back with hindsight, a lot could have happened. Like drafting player x instead of player y, or if only Leafs didn’t make that trade or make that trade.
I do agree that the Leafs rushed the rebuild but at that time, it was the right thing to do bc the team was progressing.
Marleau’s contract should have been two yrs instead of three. The Boyle trade was a good trade but the turtleneck one was horrible at the TDL.
Not trading even one of Leo, JVR and Bozak were a mistake.
Still don’t think signing JT is a mistake but not signing Willie a year before RFA is a mistake. As thats set up AM and MM not signing before their RFA too.
Giving in to Nylander’s contract demands was the mistake.

His contract set the table as a comparable and helped lead to all the other overpayments.

Leafs have toooo much Salary Cap $$ invested in tooooo few players, and it prevents them from icing a Stanley Cup competitive team.

Leafs haven't won a playoff round in 18 years since the Salary Cap was instituted in 2005.

I wonder in these two things are related and where better Cap management and resource spending allocation could solve this problem?

LA won after not winning a round previously.
LA also came into the playoffs with a swagger very few teams have. Once Sutter was behind the bench and they acquired Carter, they had the look of a team that was there to ruin some days.

In 2012 they had the best d man in the league (Doughty), the best goalie in the league (Quick), one of the best 2 way centers in the league (Kopitar), and the best 2nd line in the league (Penner-Richards-Carter).

What of these pieces do the Leafs have?

I also don’t see how you bring this management team back put I have a feeling that’s exactly what they are going to do because in my opinion they are deluded into thinking the team is better then it is.
all these great words of praise from all the Tampa coach and players is going to further convince them of that. We have a lot of suffering ahead of us
Scanning today's sports obituaries for the Leafs, the team is almost universally being praised for losing. That's what happens when the team's owners also own the press - literally. It's exactly the same as daily legacy news where the owner dictates the consistently fictional narrative.

I used to love listening to talk radio immediately after Leaf games because in Ontario there were at least two phone-in shows for the fans to commiserate/share/praise/vent. Now there are none, none allowed to exist.

You can figure out yourself.

I just took a quick look at that wall of numbers and I’m not spending much time with it. You made a post correcting another poster about cap hit for next year but will not show how you arrived at that. there is no way in hell that we could have 11 million in cap space next year with the current full roster even if the UFA’s signed at there current price.
Anyway unless you are willing to explain how you came to that statemen Enjoy your day and I will enjoy mine

During their run:

Tampa has an elite forward group at the top end.
Tampa has prime age role players who can play crash and bang hockey.
Tampa has a redwood forest of defensemen of varying ability.
Tampa has the best workhorse playoff goalie of the era.

Toronto has the first ingredient but aren't elite at any of the other categories. Everything is a little to a lot worse.
Agreed.

That’s also what happens when you develope such a long loser mentality.
the bar is so low that people are willing to accept yet another loss

Steven Stamkos said that the Leafs have a Stanley Cup team. He said it was basically too close to call between the two teams, and that it just happened that the Lightning were dreaming as big as the Leafs. While I am sure it is disappointing from the perspective of Leaf fans. I wouldn't jump the gun on dismantling this team, or trading any major assets.

They have a scoring center.

unlikely.
MLSE is likely better off lobbying for changes in the CBA to remove the salary cap.
We played that game from 1967 through 2004 with little to no results. 5 conference finals (or Stanley Cup semi-finals) appearances, overpaying outdated veterans and a whole lot of suck.

We have to find a way to win with the cap in place.

One thing I think that doesn't get mentioned, was the flat cap came into just as we got all our big guys signed. Without a doubt, that really threw a wrench in the dollar allocation plan.

If you're going by cap friendly right now, that's because the Leafs have 37 players on the roster since there is no roster limit in the playoffs. They are all being calculated in their cap for next season.

The Leafs have roughly 11M in cap space at this time for next season.
2.3 mil is with the 24 players signed for next year.

Habs fan coming in peace…
Truly impressed by the leafs. They played really well and it does seem like they have taken steps forward. Big disappointments were game 4 and to a lesser extent game 2.

Cannot be giving away games in the playoffs especially to defending champs.

I’d run It back one more time and I’d probably wouldn’t have said that before the playoffs. If they choose to break it up,I think the best way is to somehow trade JT. Nylander is on a good contract and it would be hard to get an equivalent player. JT, you might not get as much back as once hoped…but maybe a good prospect

The winners get to say what every they want…….that’s why winning is great but the losers have to live with their failure

Kerfoot lost us this series
It really is a shame that the depth players cost us the series. Nevermind that the depth contributed little to no offence in the last two games, but a few of them actually cost us games. Simmonds in game 2 with two inexplicable bonehead penalties after the whistle, Tampa scored on both. And then Kerfoot, with equally moronic plays in Game 6, first the unforced giveaway, and then the ill-advised high stick.

If either are back with the Leafs, then the administration should be fired on the spot. No justification for bringing either back. Add to that Miky, Engvall, Holl, etc. Wouldn't miss them.

Y'know they actually played a pretty good series. First time I haven't had a terrible taste in my mouth since Washington '17. In every year for the last 4 years they've choked spectacularly. That didn't happen this year. They just lost.

The way that series was officiated was honestly shameful. I refuse to continue giving a damn about a league that f***s up that badly.
