He either has a .847SV% and we lose in 5 or he had a .939SV% and we win in 6

there is no middle ground

I don't see how we gonna beat Vasy in a 7 game series. Our forward especially the high AAV forwards do not know how to make in game adjustments. They keep trying fancy and cute plays instead of having different looks to keep goalie and opposition defense guessing when things arent working.

Florida might finish 1st; and even if they don't - not sure how our D i.e. entire team defense is going to play against hard forechecking panthers

I guess if you're going to get cold goaltending, better now than in the playoffs. I'm not saying what's going on out there isn't concerning; it really is, but it's not likely that Campbell has just kind of forgotten how to play goal. Odds are, he cleans a few things up and we're good to go again.

This is it.

We know Campbell can get hot and be one of the best goalies in the league. We've seen it.

We just gotta hope he goes Vasy the last two playoffs and not Vasy against Columbus three years ago.

Hmm Panthers fans are blaming their goalie today despite the defence being worse then we played today, yet fans are blaming our defence here?
Maybe our goalie was actually terrible?

I don’t think you can’t draw conclusions from 2 different games like that.

The team had a plethora of bad luck all through the game.
However, they don't know how to simplify their game when things just aren't going their way and play sound fundamental hockey to overcome back luck.

The defense is far too aggressive for their lack of situational awareness and that leads to far too many odd man rushes against.
The forwards don't help enough defensively.
Kerfot and Engvall (although this might have been one of his better games) provide very little for what ought to be expected of them.

Marner makes great plays and horrendous plays all game long and it's equal parts mesmerizing and infuriating.
Bunting is a pleasure to watch. He's so much like Hyman as the puck-hungry pain in the ass.
Matthews is far and away the best player on this team. It's not even remotely close how much better he is than anyone else.

Tavares might never score again. He's just getting anything at all out there, but he's also not getting himself to the places he needs to be.

And 2 of the goals against were very bad....just bad.

Our coach is even saying we played well but Campbell was bad.
Interesting

He also said they can't give up the chances they did on the third and fourth goals... This isn't an isolated blame game. The defense and goaltending need to be better to contend.

Thought Tavares played extremely well tonight. Did not cheat the team for effort. He needs one to bounce off his ass and in to get him going again

I think he tried harder than usual tonight but that doesn’t look like quality hockey to me. Just the same scramble plays, incoherent ragging the puck, a few open looks. I don’t care what he has to do to get his game back, but he needs to figure it out.

Noticed how refs completely put the whistle away in the 3rd after Columbus tied it and then went to commit a couple of infractions against the Leafs right away.

So basically it's a Keefe issue

You have a distorted understanding of the word facts.
No I think you do. Clearly the coach didn't get the memo that our defence was bad.
Look I get we should always blame the defence, but Jack lost us this game.
Some of Leafs nation just has the narrative the goalie has no chance.

I don't think he can skate with his team mates.

They gave us a goal that was an obvious kick. Let's not call out the refs tonight.

I like Campbell and really hope he can turn it around. He looked so good for the early part of the season. I just want to see him do well and be happy again. :(

Also what happened to our defense? Not only did the same 4 guys in Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin and Holl look solid last season, but did the rest of our team play like this last year? I thought as a team they were better last year as well?
We’re not good defensively, never have been. We’ve gotten good defensive results because we’re a great puck possession team, they can’t score if they don’t have the puck.

We give up extreme high quality chances against far too often. We might only give up 8 shots in a period but 5 of them end up being wide open 2 on 1’s, completely blown coverage right in the slot, etc.

I agree on the last point. Today was mainly Campbell.

seemed like he was really performing well, auditioning for the Olympics, once that fell through and he got covid it really went off the rails for him... I think he bounces back, and hopefully soon.

I notice that that line never talks on the bench-just Tavares mumbling away.

It's like he has a black rain cloud following everywhere, hardly inspiring and rather depressing.

This core does not respond very well to adversity, it's really bizarre and I'd love to hear the inside perspective of the players one day when they care to talk about it publicly.
