If you give up the 6th fewest shots and have the 31st worst goalkeeping......I dont even need to say anything else do I.

Just use the eye test man. Our goalies have been absolute trash. Shots going right through them.
That's just one area that has sucked lately.

I mean, if there is a goalie issues and if Toronto really needs 2 more defenceman can you really blame the coach???

It is a stupid take nonetheless

Yep you can, systematic play and the gap control has been pitiful. That is coaching. This team right now looks like a bottom feeder but IMO the fixes are relatively simple fixes.

The goaltending has fallen off a cliff in part because the skaters have forgotten how to play without the puck. There are some confidence issues no doubt but some coachable areas you can fix. Opposing teams are picking apart Campbell low blocker, Mrzaek is way to active in his crease. He over played at least 2 of the goals in his last game. The D-men that are normally really good, Brodie and Rielly are have been horrid lately adding 2 more d-men wont help, but better coaching will. A commitment to a two way game from every forward. This is correctable. IMO this is 99% a systematic issue.

Our D always allows odd man rushes and players to walk right in and shoot. Soup stands on his head the stats on the D looks good. Terrible eye test thought like they have a long way to go

Yeah, defending the rush is still a big problem for them. Having F3 high has helped mitigate that, but when the other team starts just pouring through the neutral zone they have zero ability to stop the bleeding.

Looks pretty grim amongst this slump, especially with goaltending, but the Leafs only win 2 of their first 7 games which has long been forgotten.

They'll straighten out sooner or later .. Question is if the goaltending will.

Sure, a goalie with great career numbers and a single off year is definitely worse than a goalie with bad career numbers and one good season playing behind one of the best defensive teams in the NHL (that was still looking for an upgrade as they weren't confident).

Anyone looking at what Toronto and Carolina did in the offseason knew immediately which team made themselves better and which team made themselves worse.

Dubas knew too, but his hand was forced due to his cap bungling.
I mean the 700k in salary difference is easily made up by not signing Ritchie, moving dermott for a league minimum guy instead or simply carrying only 20 skaters. Say what you will about the decisions by all parties, but cap didn’t really impact that choice.

I didn't see the game at all, nor have I seen even the highlights on the league url.

I don't start many threads, but I want to set one up, that might stick around for a while.

It regards goaltending, and I propose, the leafs in front of the net, have lost some of their earlier confidence, in Campbell.

Which is sad on a few fronts. A: it sucks, cause you have to work a lot harder on shit you don't care to work hard on, to win a game and B: guy looked to be becoming the reincarnation of Johnny Bower, the best teammate or friend you could ever have.

Our glaring need, is for two great goalies, its uncertain if we even have one good one now.

We have a lot of trading chips imo.

If we could secure Marc Andre Fleury, I would posit that we will give hell to anyone we meet in the playoffs.

Getting giroux and chiarot means next to nothing, if Campbell shits the bed.

Just my opinion.

Leafs played a solid game. I have no complaints with how they played as a whole.

Campbell is the reason they lost, no other reason, zero.
Not disagreeing, just pointing out the obvious:

Sometimes the other team is why they lost.

It's not necessarily a glaring goaltender problem. Just one of those days when the Jackets happen to click, of which there are not many.

Leafs losing is a good revenue generator for HFBoards.

Brings out all the deplorables in Out of Town threads everywhere.
Sometimes I wonder if Rodham Clinton single-handedly created the "deplorables" phrase and meme. Didn't see it around before her quip.

If she did, she deserves to be hiding under one of those baskets.

Just guessing, but got to say, these Leafs GDTs/PGTs are always inspiring like no other. :toothless

So when Campbell performs in the post season, where does the blame go then?

I'll eat the crow, ALL the crow. But when all is said and done this post season, we won't be blaming the goalie if we lose.

:biglaugh::biglaugh:

Yeah I hate to say it but there's definitely something to be said for having low expectations in this case. We'll see how things look 2 months from now, I'm always optimistic when the playoffs start but they need to turn things around big time for that to be the case this year. I mean I'm sure they'll look better then than they do now but they need to be light years better for there to be any reason for optimism.

If a steaming pile of aligning garbage stars habs team can do some damage in the playoffs I suppose anything's possible? :rolleyes:o_O:eek: lol
