He had the best numbers of all of our defencman against Montreal and he was arguably the worst defencman that game. These stats seem to be a bit misleading. My opinion is he’s a bottom pair dman and others are he’s a top 4.

well, he had three very noticeable mistakes.

1. drop pass at the blueline leading to a breakaway
2. he had the puck in his own zone near the blueline and skated it back attempting to use some turnbacks to escape the forechecker and ultimately got pinned behind the net and lost the puck
3. tripped a guy rushing at him in the neutral zone

3 pretty obvious errors, not necessarily awful plays but not great either.

but all in all that's just 3 plays. its quite easy for a player to have a solid positive impact on a game despite a few mistakes.

Do you have anything objective to back that up? Because that top pairing of Rielly-Brodie looked a lot worse to me, and the numbers seem to back it up.

Muzzin also looked worse than Holl (and he actually had fairly good numbers himself).

I thought Dermott was solid. Liljegren had some mistakes himself but I think he was fine for the most part too. I would put Holl in the same category as Liljegren.

In the grand scheme of things, in a game where almost everyone of the Leafs looked like ass for most of the game, I don't think Holl was anywhere near the largest issue on defense or otherwise.

I said arguably because you can argue others were worse. I don’t have stats to back it up it’s just my opinion from watching the game.

It's a a ridiculous point and it's preposterously unrealistic for a team to trade EVERY player right after a playoff loss. When has that ever happened?
When has that ever happened? Good question. But another good question is when was the last time a team lost in the first round SIX years in a row?

It’s not Andersen’s fault or Campbell’s fault our team is poorly constructed

It's Campbell's fault if the guy is the worst starter in the league while playing behind a defense which is in the top 5 or 10 in pretty much every defensive metric.

Let's not pretend he has had to make a bunch of 10 bell saves either. We are asking him to stop shots from perimeter... He does that, and he has at least a .900 save percentage right now (and there are a lot of things he, and he alone, could do a lot better to improve that even more).

But yes, let's blame Dubas for a guy who is playing the worst hockey in his NHL career.

I had no issues with Ceci but I'm sure most would agree he's a much better player than Holl.

Does it really matter? They are both 5-6 defensemen. In a salary cap world whoever makes the least amount of money is the one I want.

Stats guys

It's not just stats, it's also common sense.

Since January 1st, the Leafs stats 5v5 are:

Shots against: 6th fewest in the league.
Scoring Chances against: Fewest in the league
High Danger Chances against: 2nd fewest in the league.
xGA/60: 6th lowest in the league

Most common teams up there with the Leafs in these categories: Boston, Minny, Calgary, Tampa, etc.

.....and from this we get team save%: 31st in the league.

It's insane the Leafs are still 12-6-2 with that kind of goalkeeping which is a testament to just how good the team in front of the keepers as well as the coaching has been.

Common sense and then proceeds to use stats

If you give up the 6th fewest shots and have the 31st worst goalkeeping......I dont even need to say anything else do I.

Just use the eye test man. Our goalies have been absolute trash. Shots going right through them.

Looking at the games, instead of 12-6-2, the Leafs are 15-4-1 with just average goaltending this calendar year IMO.

I was looking at giveaways and Leafs have 4 defenseman in the top 40. Is there a way to pull a stat to see how many odd man rushes/breakaways teams give up.
