Campbell is good but I think not signing yet is getting to him . He did say that at the allstar weekend . If he signs things will calm down mentally . He will have security next 5 years
What did he say?

We can't handle physical style playoff type hockey. Our goaltending is inconsistent.

Sound familiar? The team had better grow a big set of balls real quick.
And questionable coaching that is uninspiring...We need a better coach. How can you go into the barn without Simmonds & Clifford? Coach is as soft as the team. I do not have confidence in him in the playoffs and fully expect another 1st round KO..

Jack was below average, and man, can we please keep Holl on the third pairing? I couldn't stomach the whole game, but from what I saw, two goals were directly attributable to Holl being beat on the outside. Muzzin also looked like he was continually pinching, aggressively, and it led to one or two rushes that converted.

We also got crushed physically, crushed. If this is how the team plays with regards to being physical, we are beyond f***ed in the playoffs.

Obviously Campbell needs to be better. Some bad breaks, tough screens and tough saves to make but he needs to find a way to stop one or two more of those and that 3rd goal can't go in. Looked like a Pewee player who can't get his slapper off the ice slashing at that one timer, couldn't have broke 70 mph and he got beat clean at a crucial point in the game.

Muzzin - Holl continues to be a disaster. Muzzin is decent with Lily, Holl was excellent with Sandin. Holl-Muzzin just isn't working, just stop putting them out there together.

Once again Holl is the whipping boy but man, Muzzin is just awful in transition and Holl takes the blame for being the guy back trying to defend a difficult play. 1st goal against isn't too bad, he pinches and his man makes the play around him but he does have support. Bunting over backchecks and goes to the wrong man putting Holl in a bad spot.

4th goal, Muzzin goes to the nearside boards to try and take away that passing option, except he leaves the middle of the ice wide open and Holl is left having to cover 2 guys and the entire middle of the ice. He's forced to go to Gaudreau and try and make a play on the puck or give up a break away Johnny drops it back to the open man and another goal against.

Following up on my own point, I hate that 1st goal against. It's such a dumb play but it's seems to be exactly what our coaching staff wants, it was Babcock who started it but Keefe seems to have continued it.

The Leafs want the backchecker to chase the puck carrier every time. The problem with that is the defender back still needs to keep in front of the puck carrier otherwise they can just drive to the net for the breakaway, which means no one is covering the trailer. If they are able to move the puck to the trailer the defender's spacing terrible and there's no way the defender can close down that space quickly enough.

On that goal Holl is comfortably in front of Backlund, Backlund has some space to try and buy time but absolutely no where to go besides trying to beat the defender 1 on 1 (and Marner was the next man back so no 3 on 2 help was coming for Calgary). If Bunting just goes to Mangiapane he easily catches him and it's a basic 2 on 2 with both defenders back and in good position. Instead he chases Backlund, Holl has no choice but to stay in front of Backlund and Mangiapane is wide open in the slot.

I think the goal of this system is to try and pressure the opposition as much as possible to force them into making a play under pressure and possibly turning the puck over for a counter attack. But the downside is, if they do make the play you gave a prime scoring chance that had no reason to happen.

Backcheck to the middle of the ice, take away the trailer, the same thing everyone is taught as 8 year-olds.

Love to see all the negativity saying we can't handle this type of hockey when we beat this team already and outplayed them last night.

I am assuming everyone thinks the finals are Washington vs Calgary since those are the only two teams that can "handle" this type of game.

Same old song and dance and same old results. The spreadsheet says we won but the scoreboard says we lost. I am hoping that there will be something on the line when we play Florida. That will give me a good indication if this team has changed or not. You can continue to believe what you want.

JT and Willy have to start earning their paychecks. Can't expect Matty and Marner to carry the team every single night. And Campbells play is very concerning.

Yeah JT is very disappointing @ 11m. Soup is not as good as he was until COVID and not as bad since. He is coming back to earth and unless Dubas helps him by seriously upgrading the D, we are probably out in round #1.

Leafs cant play with physicality, they are too soft. In playoffs every team is mean and physical. A few tough guys might help but you need some tough guys on every line like the best playoff teams do

Keefe brought a knife to a gun fight last night. Seriously how can you not anticipate that a Flames team coached by Sutter, playing in a B2B would play that style against a more skilled but soft as butter team ??

"Same old song and dance same old results" just look at the record vs Calgary, it is 1-1, "can't play with them"

Carolina was largely considered a playoff-style game until this one and then the miserable geriatrics on this board decided this is actual playoff hockey.

I'd be more worried about going up against any of the softer playoff teams - Colorado, Carolina, Tampa, Florida.

Man oh man how I love to be a Leafs fan. I guess a few of you haven't noticed we are on a record breaking pace this year.
We also have a yearly Rocket challenger who's arguably the best scorer in 30 years.

Goaltending is bad you say? The kid who is supposed to be our backup or 1B at best was a freaking ALL STAR this year. That kid who can't shoot? He's on a 82 game pace for just under 40.

Or how about the old guy we named captain whose game is clearly regressing? Ya, he is a PPG player while shutting down the other teams best players successfully night after night.

I guess it's true, we really do suck. Blow the damn thing up ;)

Or maybe you haven't noticed that an excellent regular season has been followed by 1st round playoff losses for a number of years now?

What you're saying sounds reasonable. On the other hand, you're new here so you might not be aware that there have been comments just like yours when people expressed concerns a year ago, two years ago, three years ago and four years ago. The bottom line is that team has a history of being very good in the regular season, and then falls flat on it's face in the playoffs and the people who were mocking the ones that voiced concerns like you're doing now looked pretty silly in the end.

The NJ and CAR games were good, but before that, we haven't been good for a while now, but have been winning mostly because we've managed to outscore our mistakes and last night again, our defensive coverage made some big mistakes and this time our goalie didn't save us. I'm not too worried because every season has it's ups and downs and I'll be far more interested in how we're playing in the last dozen games or so but still, when the team isn't looking good it's understandable that people say so, and the team didn't look good once again last night. We need to be a lot better defensively in the playoffs as goals are a lot harder to come by in the playoffs and outscoring our mistakes isn't likely to be a winning formula.

It was just one game, so of course blowing it up would be dumb. But pretending that everything is awesome and that we will play great in the playoffs would be equally dumb.

IIRC Darth Vlader stoned them (sound familiar ??) and we beat them in OT. They were also playing a B2B. Avs are closer to the Leafs. When the playoffs start, we are going to see Tampa and Florida step it up. The question is, will the Leafs step it up because if they do not, they are done.

Like I said, I wanna see what we do against Florida. By the way they played Tampa last playoffs, they are not as soft as you think.

Leafs didn't play a bad game overall and did carry the play for large parts.

That Zadorov hit was the turning point in the game as coach Sutter got the Flames to turn up the physicality after the first part of the game was more open style which the Leafs prefer and dominated.

With Simmonds out Keefe did not dress enough physicality in the Leafs line-up to counter the style of play Calgary was dictating.

Its too bad the Leafs couldn't take advantage of a tired Flames team that played a tough physical game the night before against Vegas and Markstrom who played both games in the back to back and was forced to face nearly 50 shots by the Leafs in this one.

Reminds me of Rangers game. Up 3-1 in the first (only because their goalie was terrible) and lost 6-3.

Yeah I mostly just watch the Leafs but last spring I watched some of the FLA/TB battle cause it was just such great hockey and I was expecting FLA to be good this season based on that. They have not disappointed, I have a ton of respect for that team and I'm also looking forward to see how we look against them and I agree that based on what I saw in the playoffs, they are not the least bit soft.

Sure fun to how bipolar leafs fan can be...

Won against carolina : oh yeah we're playing very good and we are able to compete against every body

Lost against calgary playing the same exact way: we will never win be able to bewt florida or tampa or whatever with that group and we need to trade everyone and need upgrade at every position... we need to trade muzzin he was awful in his 1st game in a month and like his 6 in 2 month....

Just calm down and relax
