Mackinnon isn't setting any ground rules, or changing how players treat him…

Tell that to Hockeyfights, who list one fight for him since early 2018.

This is a case where one should watch more out of town games before coming down on a conclusion on the topic instead of looking at outdated fight cards. You can’t possibly comment on the in game dynamics when Mackinnon fights or gets chippy or flies off the handle and how the Avs respond if you aren’t even aware of these situations existing.

I've watched plenty of out of town games, thanks. Probably more than you. The fight cards aren't outdated; they just only include actual fights. Not things like Mackinnon having a fit, throwing a helmet at somebody, and looking like a fool. Regardless, even if one wishes to include those, it's far from "a regular basis", and as I already mentioned, there's quite a few things about Mackinnon that I don't want our stars emulating. Mackinnon being a hothead does nothing to prevent opponents from going after him or his teammates - it promotes it if anything.

I notice you avoided answering what exactly you expected Matthews to do as he's being cross checked, jumped on, and choked from behind by somebody 6'2" and over 200 lbs. Again, the second he had a chance to do anything about it, the linesman ran in to protect Dubois, and then Dubois was so scared that he took shifts off to cower on the bench.

You can’t make those blanket statements because you’re not even aware of the circumstances why the fights occurred even with YouTube provided. Mackinnon jumped in to fight because Byram, Girard and Makar were all recipients unprovoked in-game cheap shots by Wild, Shark and Coyotes players. That’s just standard hockey fare. He isn’t provoking situations because he’s flying around causing problems which victimizes his teammates.

I’m not avoiding the answering anything. I’ve said all along that Matthews should protect himself and deter others from taking cheap shots at him by being nasty in a defensive stance. If someone is trying to bully you, get sticks up, elbows out and punch back when being mauled. Just normal things.

The whole “debate” we’re having stems from your statement that star players don’t fight. Which isn’t true at all.

I am aware of the circumstances of why those three tussles occurred - I was referring to the other one you posted, where the only "offense" was Mackinnon taking a light hit, before he made himself look like a complete fool.

That said, notice how those 3 plays were almost identical? Almost like Mackinnon coming in and aggressively grabbing the sweaters (of sometimes not even the right person) doesn't do anything to prevent occurrences like that. In fact, that happening 3 times in a span of ~15 months seems quite a bit more often than average.

The only one making a blanket statement here is you; suggesting that being a hothead helps the team in some way, when there is absolutely zero evidence of that aspect of him providing any benefit.

Except Matthews was pushing back, and the team as a whole showed a ridiculous amount of pushback, and yet he's still getting heat from a small subsection of fans. You can't throw punches or get sticks up when a 6'2" 200+ lbs man is climbing on your back while you're on the ice, and as soon as Matthews got him off, the linesman came in to protect Dubois, and then Dubois cowered on the bench. So what exactly was Matthews supposed to do here? Not vague comments like "being nasty in a defensive stance".

Most superstars don't fight, except in extremely rare situations, and superstars shouldn't fight. Throwing punches at helmets when you have some of the most valuable hands in the league is a really stupid idea.

March 31st Scotia bank Arena. Circle the date.

A character loss is better than losing with a whimper.

Simmonds should train smashing punching bags on skates with PIONKS head.

i can’t wait. Gloves dropped instantly.
Clifford better slash and fight the next jets player closing in on Simmonds.

I want blood in the arena. Pionk better be sent to the hospital.

I want all out fights so Brad meier can be called out for causing this crap.
