I know many were horny to land fluery but by all accounts he didn't want to come here, so that said, what could we have landed and what was the asking price?
Personally I've been doubtful of what our goaltending scouts are seeing, but I don't think dubas is the type to not see it or try to improve the team at every position.

Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Kerfoot, Mik, Engvall, Kampf, Rielly, Holl, Lily, Brodie are not going to run anybody. Bunting is the only threat in our top 9. Running players is not in our DNA. Last night I saw JT do nothing while Gio got into with a Tampa player, Mik and Engvall skate away after being cheap shotted. Kerfoot try to push back and get it back worse from Foote. Barely saw 16 and 88.

We need to outskill them and play with the lead to beat them. Doubt we are going to see the Vasi we ran out of the rink two weeks ago so no freebees.

All joking aside, after last night does anybody think Tampa was losing to avoid the Leafs ??

The guy has zero physicality, buckles under pressure and is more often than not, caught out of position. It baffles me how some on here still justify his existence on this team.

He is literally a worse captain than Phaneuf and I have to hand it to JT, that’s a tough feat accomplish.

Zero leadership, plays like a bitch, can barely skate anymore, turns the puck over like an idiot time and time again, and can’t score a goal unless it deflects off the bloated wallet on his backside.

I really dislike everything about him at this point except his elite faceoff skills. That’s about the only value he has left to this team. He needs to go ASAP if he doesn’t lead this team somewhere these playoffs.

All in all, this was a pretty concerning loss. It’s the same playbook we’ve seen used against this team in the playoffs and it was yet again effective. I liked our physical pushback but I think this game may have woken up TB. They looked like back to back champs last night.

From listening to Keefe I think they pretty much were mailing it in. Tampa sent a clear message to the Leafs that they will show up when it counts. Funny I thought that is what our core also said. Lose 8-1 to Tampa in November, flush it. Lose 8-1 with 4 games to go to the B2B SC champs who you are about to face in round #1 is concerning. We were missing our unicorn so I still have some faith.

Not much to say about last night. You just gotta hope that this wasn't a preview for the playoffs. I know we were down Matty, but the physicality/bulling of our skilled players, mixed with a hot goalie...felt mighty familiar.

I turned it off after 4-0, the Leafs took it to them in the first but ultimately a few things happened:

1. Mo tripped in the corner, puck stolen for Tampa goal.
2. Spezza takes a penalty because Hagel got hit by a shot?

And now it’s 2-0, now it’s 3-0!

Thing is, though, that it is better to have a vet be the captain as opposed to naming someone like Matthews. I dislike the trend of naming young superstars who were barely just drafted as captains right away. But overall I do agree with you.

That was a playoff game , thats what every playoff game is going to look like, that is why some of us have said don't be fooled by regular season play this team is not built for the playoffs period . What is going to be the result when game one Tampa spends the whole game running , Soup , Mathews etc... ? If Campbell goes down the series will look and play out the way last nights game played out .
