Didn't catch match, we looked sloppy in the bits I saw, but some pretty horrid officiating that had no impact on outcome, just a poorly handled game by them

They handed Tampa a ton of momentum. Not enough to get them 8 goals, but enough to easily sway a close game (which it was for the first half of the game). They also made it really easy for Tampa to take a lot of cheap shots in a game where they really were not that physically dominant.

It is not going to be easy for us to win games in the playoffs if that is how they will be reffed.

All in all, goaltending was non-existent and our defense were completely out of position. Our forwards had some good chances going early on but it tailed off once the other parts of the game were completely off. Fortunately, we haven't had too many games like this.

I figured we would lose tonight, posted that earlier today.

For any poster on HF and any sports commentator on tv or radio who opined that Tampa Bay "has played a lot of hockey the past 2 years and a lot of PO games. Vasey has a lot of miles on him" You are stupid and you should stop posting or if you're a broadcaster, you should either resign or be fired because you're clearly stupid.

TB was is the last team I want the Leafs playing in the first round. I think we can still beat them in a series but it will be very difficult. No talk of tired or mileage dumb dumb dumb

I mean if they're playing Tampa in the first round this game is a nice reminder of why they need to put the work in to take them seriously. They outplayed them in their last matchup and could have some false sense of confidence.

100%. If Matthews and Campbell are being load managed in a playoff preview vs the defending two time cup winning champions I think the Florida Sunshine has gone to the head of the entire organization. Doing front runner victory lap nonsense always gets Toronto in trouble.

Although Spezza said that the Montreal disaster is always front of mind for the team, I don't believe him. We're constantly having to have these games to reminds us every month that we've not won a playoff round in nearly two decades.

Memories of goldfish this lot.

Just hope the team can mentally regroup from a game like this and not fall apart once the playoffs start against this team.

They will do exactly this to us in game one. Physical intimidation. Their team is stronger, grittier, and dirtier than ours. If we get roped into that style of game we won’t come out on top.

You can take piece of wood and with both hands drive it into someones face, 2 mins. But touching someone on top of the head with the butt end from 3-5 feet away is attempt to injure. The logic is flawless.

What did simmonds do to warrant a couple games suspension?
I could see the Sergachev hit getting attention from the league, left his feet blatantly hit him in the head and was clearly intentional. Love Wayne train so hope he doesn't get suspended.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with suggesting Tampa has a lot of mileage or expressing desire to play them. But wanting Tampa also means you’re ready mentally and physically to bring down the bear. Bring it on.

I do take exception with the thought process that the Leafs are always weasling around looking for the path of least resistance in the playoffs though. It’s not supposed to be easy. You fancy yourselves a powerhouse. Now go prove it or shut up.

Since short sample sizes are the rave. Does anyone know the Leafs powerplay opportunity a game for when Matthews doesn't play?
This year or all time.

Tampa Bay was obviously motivated by getting bullied by us last time in their own building. Now we need to take that same motivation and use it against them next game. Also, this looks like a completely different team without AM in the lineup, especially when you see said lineup against a real team.

They can and will do this for 7 games like they did against the Isles. I am not sure our guys have the will to take the garbage for 7 games.

I think they do, this team is not the same as before when it comes to the rough stuff, also Tampa is not the same as last year, their entire third line is gone and they were the feistiest line probably.

Lub, Bunting, Clifford, Gio, Blackwell, none are afraid to get involved after the whistle and are good additions.

It was a poorly called and handled game from what I saw, but we didn't seem to have it tonight. Even in the first which was our best period, we were uncharacteristically sloppy.
