I'm not at all worried about losing, in OT, to a top 6-7 team in the league, at their place.

My lone concern remains watching the Leafs playing with the lead, and how that translates to the playoffs. I understand that they held on to almost all of these types of games this year and that they were going to lose one, eventually, but the number of times teams come from 3 down to make it a nail biter, screams of concern in the playoffs, IMO.

Leafs performance with 3+ goal leads this year:

Allow 0 goals: 8
Allow 1 goals: 6
Allow 2 goals: 1
Allow 3 goals: 2
Allow 4 goals: 1

i'm glad i only watched the 1st ...though on a Col feed, and man do they see the game very differently.

All you Leaf fans thinking Avs are a SC team hahahahaha .. they won't even get past either Nashville or STL .. they have to hope they play Minny .. they can play shinny with Minny and win .. Nashville and STL will dominate forecheck on their poor defensive and small D men and their tender is a sieve .. Avs are not built to win a Cup yet .. they are 3 moves away on D and a G before they figure it out

Leafs can't skate with Avs no doubt .. but very few can .. passing puck possession hockey does not work in fast games .. and then add in physicality and it is completely dead to rights .. Leafs need to bolster top 4 D and add a vet defensive D too and hope either Soup or Woll goes viral

They literally swept the Blues less than a year ago.

There's no way Dubas is going into the playoffs with Muzzin-Holl. He made that clear to me when he tried to shop Holl immediately after protecting him. Dubas is way too smart to run Holl as no.4 after he couldn't even stand out against underdog opponents (Jackets, Habs).

Sandin is too slow (no foot speed) and Dermy has regressed .. Lily is only realistic shot and he is a baby .. unless this is FIXED Leafs will not get through any of Atlantic playoff teams

Yeah I saw some posts questioning Sandins 11 minutes.

He's simply too slow to stand a chance against that Avs team at his current development stage.

Who cares he is slowest guy on our dcore .. and he is way way back in last place in every sprint down ice .. like Habs did last year in playoffs it will happen again this year if he plays .. his speed has not improved at all .. we can't lose 2 games again this year due to a lack of foot speed

I never shy away from criticizing the Leafs when they irk me, which is often, but I have to step in and defend them a little bit from the Monday morning hot takes about “yet another meltdown.”

Before the Avs came back on Saturday night CBC had flashed up a graphic indicating the Leafs were something like 17-0-0 with a lead after 2 periods this season.

The real storyline will be how they respond vs Vegas and the rest of the road trip, not this recycled crap about blowing big leads. It’s historic but not representative of the team this season.

Lol Blues and Preds? Avs would skate circles around them. They just need above average goaltending to make a serious run. I'd be shocked if they don't come out of the Central. I can see the Wild giving them fits, though

Nobodies taking a shot at Sandins current development. How many first round exits do you guys need to start taking the second pairing more seriously.

Haha indeed. The narratives around here are extremely LOL at times for sure.

I'm pretty serious about everything that has to do with the Leafs, including the 2nd pairing. You were talking about Sandin being out-matched against the Avs, Sandin is on the 3rd pairing, he's already pretty good, he's improving all the time and will therefore likely be even better when the playoffs start and for a 3rd pairing guy, I'm not worried about him at all, not against the Avs and not against anyone else either.

By end of 1st game both Makar and Girard and Byram will be out with concussions as they will be rocked into da wall/glass head first many many times .. can't win playoff hockey with softies/offensive guys like that .. and your tender is so bad he makes Freddy look a rock start .. no chance for Avs when playoff reffing starts up .. only chance for a 1st round win is if you get Minny and you win da races against them

The 2nd pairing have been pretty good in the playoffs actually. Last year, it was the 3rd pairing that got us into trouble and while I know that Sandin was on that pairing some of the time (and didnt look good), he's made massive strides this year overall that cant be ignored. The biggest issue with the 2nd pairing in the playoffs has been health (Muzzin has probably been our best dman the last two playoffs before he went down with freak injuries both times)

Just looking at Sandin against top teams this year:

Against the Avs:
xGF%: 58.80

Against the Canes:
xGF%: 66.78

Against the Bolts:
xGF%: 59.12

Against the Rangers:
xGF%: 61.79

They are still managing him a bit against certain teams but he's played insanely good against the best teams in the league this year.

His rookie playoff mistakes were glaring but not representative of what he is bringing this year. He's really finding his groove and is going to be a mainstay on this years playoff run. A lot slower dmen than him have been absolute rocks for their team in the postseason.

I like him and hope he can develop into a defender in pro hockey .. but a lot of plays occur instantly where you get into races for pucks like blocked shots and intercepted passes and you need a certain level of foot speed to AT LEAST not lose pucks you should be able to skate down .. we can't have blow by breakaways like Habs did to cost us 2 games in a series .. I am not sure there are any top flight defenders with his foot speed in NHL .. you do realize he is LAST among Leaf defenders in goal line to goal line races LAST .. and he is not even close .. even Holl beats him in races .. and Holl is next slowest .. sure smarts can help but he is an offensive guy taking risks so if he plays far back all da time then he won't be able to create anything

Even if he is last in races, he has been remarkably effective this year and you have to remember Holl has had stretches of being lights out effective head to head against the fastest players in the league. He's still learning all the nuances of playing in the fastest league in the world and is going to get burned occasionally but as his positioning and instincts improve, it's almost never going to cost the team.

He has a lower goals against than any player other than Lilegren (and played tougher minutes than Lily) and you would think 4 on 4 or 3 on 3 would expose him to the speed game more but he's actually excelled when put in those situations. He's been the 2nd most used dmen for OT this year and hasnt been on the ice for a goals against yet this season in overtime.
