Next time we bring oxygen masks on the bench. They used to do that in the NFL, maybe they still do. I'm sure the Avalanche thought they sucked after we beat them 8-3 in our barn, At least we got a point in their's.
Not sure about your post. Are you agreeing that they could have managed their minutes better?

Yeah Nylander sent flying and Matthews pitchforked in the offensive end. If that's a penalty for Tavares on Kadri then Matthews draws at least one considering how many times he was mauled tonight. I don't ask for the refs to win us games but call things evenly ffs.

Great mobile core but this will be the Avs downfall again. They're even softer at the back than they were last season, should've found a way to hang onto a guy like Zadorov who kept teams honest. We played them off the ice a few weeks back with a proper roster. Even the first half of this game Matthews' line had Colorado in a pretzel in their own end.

The two teams have a lot of similarities.
Zadorov couldn't make this Avs team and the Avs never had a proper roster last meeting.

In fact they haven't had a full roster yet this year.

Stay classy and hopefully see you in the finals. ;)

"Suck" is a huge reach. They're certainly more geared towards the offensive end of things and I'd like to see them move a guy like Girard and replace him with a quality defensive player, but they don't suck.

Defensemen usually hit their prime maturity around 27-28 years old. The defensive part of their game is usually last to mature because they have to add some damn man strength.

Cale Makar (23 years old)
Sam Girard (23 years old)
Bowen Byram (20 years old)
Devon Toews (27 years old)
Ryan Murray (28 years old)
Erik Johnson (33 years old)

They've got some really young guys playing MAJOR minutes. I'm willing to give them a few years before I judge their long term defensive play. I sususpect they'll have to make a move, or two, to optimize the group, but they have lots to work with!

Love your posts btw. The Avs were the best defensive team in the league last year and have, as of a week or 2 ago, the best or top 2 defensive metrics this year across the board. They just weren't getting goaltending or health early on.

Good luck and hopefully we meet in the final. :thumbu:

Avs top line registered 21 shots (of their 49 total) and combined for 7 points while the Leafs only registered 27 shots on net as a team, although with Kerfoot elevated and scoring 1 and setting up Matthews twice the Leafs top line accounted for 6 points and 10 of the Leafs shots on net. Most of the rest of the team were passengers in this one however.

The 1 point in the standings goes to Jack Campbell, who was outstanding facing nearly 50 shots and was the reason this game even went to OT. His play this year being among the goaltending leaders has been consistent and impressive all season and he is earning himself a huge raise for next contract next season. He is the driving force behind Leafs season this year which would look much different without him playing at that level.
When we were watching last night we noticed that a couple of shots going wide counted for them and they weren’t counting all of ours. They definitely outshot us but I think if the NHL went back threw the game the shots would be different.

I think Carolina might have something to say about being the best defensive team this year.

This year Colorado doesn't appear to be near the best in any accurately measurable defensive category?

They all seemed pretty gassed by games end. Maybe Holl played too many, I don't really know. The 4th line played about 8. Sandin and Mcdermot played about 11. Maybe they could have played Sandin a few extra shifts but it seems alright to me. More oxygen for all would have been good.

The Avs are a great with lots of star players but I don’t watch the leafs to hear about how great the opponents are. By the end of the game I was pretty tired of them showing every little thing Makar did. Might as well have had a Makar cam last night because that’s what every leaf would love. I know Bowen and Ralph are homers but when playing an American team why can’t we have homer broadcasts.

This is every time. Last year it was Caulfield dick suck fest

Yes agreed. Analytics I was refering to at 1 point. Definitely only part of the picture. I'll have to revisit.

Take care, stay safe and hopefully fans for Leaf home games soon.

I don't get how many think they are so much better than us.

I didn't mind TBH. Makar is amazing, I didn't mind learning a bit more about him and I already know our guys pretty well.

Totally agree. Don't understand why Leafs can't have the same Toronto-centric commentary that the Jays and Raptors get.

I think that's a team we beat in a best of 7 series. The Leafs let off the gas and that along with the reffing fiasco was the tale of the tape.

That game is over if Toronto goes up 4-1 and has there actual lineup playing and not missing 2/3rds of their 3rd line.

Every other shift Colorado sent out Rantanen or MacK or Landy or Makar in the 3rd period. Toronto had to send out Wayne Simmonds and Ritchie some shifts, or even Clifford, None of those 3 players I just listed take a regular shift against them if we are healthy. Hell two of them aren't even in our lineup.

Toronto ran out of gas and couldn't match up anymore, it happens, but it's not by fluke Toronto smashed them 8-3 earlier in the season, and was up 4-1 on them.

cause its just so easy to make that kinda trade with his contract.
3 years left at the end of the season with approx 24M owed, drops to ~17M after his summer bonus is paid could be VERY attractive to many teams.

Who is our regional broadcast crew these day?

Miller and Ferraro on TSN. Sportsnet games are never (or rarely) Regional anymore which is why we don’t really have a homer television broadcast. I don’t mind so much anymore now since Hughson’s been put to pasture and really he was the one that made every HNIC unbearable to watch and listen to. Cuthbert knows how to call an actual “neutral” game properly. All the Avs jerking-off came from the highlight packs the RSN truck was putting together and the panel during intermissions.

Because it was a national broadcast, homer calls are usually regional games.
Not leaf regional games, and when listening to other team broadcasters it’s very obvious. It was a national broadcast last night so do understand that shouldn’t be homers then but when playing an American teams maybe a little bit would be ok.

I do understand what you’re saying but last night was away over the top with his praise. We seen more replays of Makar walking the line then Campbell’s crazy save for some reason.
