I think teams won't be lining up to take Mrazek or Ritchie off our hands. Kerfoot for picks would free up some cash.

I agree but the usual suspects have argued that that won't be the case. I'd be looking to move him now to a team that might be desperate enough to take him now (i.e. Oilers) and trade for a vet before the TDL. Just don't give up a 3rd for a Rittich.

They had 4 power plays that accounted for almost a quarter of their total shots. Of course their top players had their shots.

The shot clock would have been less lopsided if the officiating hadn’t been awful.

Which one of those 4 Leaf penalties did you think was unwarranted?

Its not like Leafs penalties weren't obvious calls as Brodie hauled down his man to prevent a breakaway, Ritchie for no reason at all crosschecked a player to the ice without the puck taking an ill advised interference penalty, and Tavares grabbed Naz by the arm as he was going around him, and Matthews took the feet out from Johnson.

Besides the Avs PP went 0-4 on the night thanks mostly to Campbell but it was the Leafs that scored the only PP goal in this one.

It was even strength when Avs did all their damage in this one. Shots were a lopsided 20-5 in the 3rd period for the Avs as they came back from being down by 3 goals.

I thought Leafs top line with Matthews, Campbell's goaltending and Leafs strong PK were the positive take-aways from this one.

Lots of overreactions in this thread. We were missing 3 key forwards and playing against one of the best teams in the league in their own barn, and still got a point. Yes, we blew the lead and got outplayed for the first time in a long while, but I think they deserve to be cut some slack.

Let's see how they respond this week.

It was the lack of calls on obvious penalties against us I have issues with. The Brodie call was awful.

well option 1 is probably mrazek. He is making 3.8 x 2. He is a legit 1 a goalie and has been for years. Won’t get much value for him. But can get out from that contract

option 2 is kerfoot. He makes 750’k after bonus. He has real value. Probably a 50pt player this year.

option 3 is Ritchie. Hope you can add him for free? If not. Small sweetner.

with sandin and Lilly taking roles. At least one of dermott/Holl are gone next year.

that’s 3.5 kerfoot. 3.8 mrazek. 2.5 Ritchie. 2 holl. That’s about 12 million that will probably be gone.

We need 1.3 for rielly. Probably 3.5 for jack and 2.2 for sandin/lilly. Hopefully kase gets 1 million raise.

even if they just waive Ritchie and replace kerfoot with an ELC. You can run back the same team with Campbell at 5 million and have 1.4 for a forward

And they'll need a capable backup, so 3.8 from Mrazek isn't net. A capable backup is likely 1.2 - 2.0 Cap.

Mrazek, Ritchie, Kerfoot will be moved to pay Soup ahead of Marner. Marner is more likely to be moved if he and the Leafs shit the bed in the playoffs again IMO.

Maybe, we'll see. A lot of things up in the air like how we do in the playoffs, is Mrazek movable, what will it cost to move Ritchie etc. We also have pay Rielly, Sandin and Liljegren more so ... we'll see.

Haha I haven't read the thread figuring that would be the case. It wasn't an ideal game for sure, I think both coaches have some issues with how their teams played last night. They didn't play that badly though either, not an ideal game but far from horrible on both sides. It was a hard fought entertaining game that was a lot of fun to watch and we almost got two points.

Big picture is that we were on the road, facing one of the leagues best teams who have been on a roll, we were missing one of our best players, we were obviously underdogs and we came away with a point. Not bad at all IMO. Take the point and on to the next game.

The embellishment call was the only bullshit one. The refs got that one completely wrong.

.
That Brodie call at the end of the game after the Avs were on a PP was pretty horrendous. It's an easy call on Kadri to finish the game 4on4, especially given they just called Ritchie on an interference cross check seconds earlier.

Avs have been hot, and probably having Envall would have helped, but COVID doesn't discriminate.

Sorry had to ...

I think that's a team we beat in a best of 7 series. The Leafs let off the gas and that along with the reffing fiasco was the tale of the tape.

This game was a reality check that proves this team is not ready for a playoff run. That was an epic collapse tonight. Very bad.

It wasn't an epic collapse and showed nothing about if the Leafs were ready.

Under your pretense, when the Leafs destroyed the Avs earlier they showed they were ready to win the Cup

I dont usually like to place blame with the refs but that game could have easily ended differently with better officiating at the end of the second period.

Nylander gets blatantly tripped in the neutral zone with 4:55 left.
So we should have had a PP that would have given us a chance to go up 5-1 and at worst killed two minutes off the clock.

Mackinnon drives to the net play where he gets upended looked like a 50/50 call and easily could be argued that Holl was going for the puck and Mackinnon just got squeezed by two Leafs players.

The play directly after where Aubel clearly crosschecks Holl from behind is an obvious penalty. I guess this might be a hard call to make ingame right after their star player gets dumped right in front of the net and the crowd is super mad but still you cant get a more textbook crosscheck.

Instead no call, puck gets turned over and Makar scores like 20 seconds later. This entire sequence never even happens if they make the easy tripping call on Nylander 1 minute prior.

Still a bad loss that shouldnt happen when you're leading 4-1 but the Leafs did get somewhat jobbed at the end of the second period imo.

People blaming the refs for that loss make me cringe. We had no business being in that game. As well as they played in the 1st, they were equally as bad for the rest of the game. I'm just happy we got a point out of it. Yeah we had a 4-1 lead but with how lopsided the ice was tilted after that, it was just a matter of time until they blew it. There was missed calls both ways, Mackinnon clearly got his feet taken out on one play and crashed into Soup (no call) Makar scored shortly after though on the same shift. Refs were bad on both sides, but we did not lose because of the refs. We lost because we allowed 50 shots on net and generated almost zero chances after scoring the 4th one.

The positives are Soup still looks elite, Matthews had a great start to the game and the PK was 100%.

It's fine to admit we got out played. We're not going to be the best team every night, even the greatest teams of all time have been outplayed at some point. It's not the end of the world. On to the next one with hopefully a better result.

Holl needs to be out of the line up for good. He made a great play on that odd-man rush breaking up the Landeskog pass but other than that I thought he was horrible. He made some terrible passes leading to turnovers in our own zone and lost too many board battles. Ritchie scored somehow, but this guys a plug. I really hope we can just call someone up to replace him, he shouldn't be on any cup contenders roster.

Bad but nothing even close to 6-5 Ottawa or the Boston collapse. The Avs are a legit contender, not a scrappy upstart like Anaheim or Detroit and not a bottom feeder like Buffalo or Ottawa, they’re a damn fine team, but the tending should be a concern.

There are positives to take away, two more for Matthews and Jackie continues to be the real deal, and - and, the Leafs take the season series against them, taking a point at home when you know they were pissed about that smack down last month.

It didn’t cost the game but the reffing was bad on both sides, missing a ton of calls, and then they call three penalties with three minutes left? What a bunch of amateurs.

Overall, what a fun game to watch, it had everything: goaltending heroics, mostly Jackie but Francooze made some great saves, Superstars coming out to play - Matthews, Mack and Makar, and a lot of action, a Leafs-Avs SCF would be madness.
