Matthews got tripped twice in the offensive zone and no calls, each time Matthews gets up and is looking around.

On the third goal the three leafs are looking around expecting somebody is gonna get called for tripping McKinnon I think so they let the Avs grab the puck and then 30 seconds later it’s in the back of the net,

Disappointing.

Happy Ritchie got a goal but that guy is terrible, please just put him in the minors and bring somebody else up. He can’t skate, takes awful penalties and has no forecheck at all.

No excuses. We were outplayed early and late but did alright for a while in between. Campbell kept us in for a while but the cheap penalties didn't help and we didn't tighten up the d enough with that lead.

Still, we got a point on the road against a very good team.

They were the better team tonight.

Well Sheldon you only played your 3rd pairing 11 minutes each tonight and gave Holl 25 minutes and Muzzin 24. Playing with 4 defensemen isn't a good way to keep guys fresh.

I saw this game too. Dermott struggled every shift against the high flying Avs. Maybe Keefe could have used Sandin more during the 3rd as he wasn't struggling to the same degree.

This game was a test of the Leafs' team defense and it cracked a bit.

I'm sure everyone has already gushed over Makar by now but man he's quite a talent. He's skates like Jake Gardiner and finishes like Ray Bourque.

Oh please, do we forget the thumping they received earlier this season? Colorado has a great team but they have weaknesses. Especially in net. And their style of play doesn't bode well come playoff time. I have them as #2 behind Tampa but I'd love to see the Avs crash and burn given they have the most obnoxious fanbase on this site.

Ah yes the Good ol' opposing team catch up when we are ahead in the game. Absolutely amazing. Owell we can't always out score our defensive woes onto the next game.

Oh, look. A lot of people you never see posting when the Leafs are winning. How about that.

Campbell lost this one with that "D'oh!" tying goal, but given this "loss" still got them a point, and they're coming off a long layoff, and a winning streak to boot, I'd say this one falls squarely in the "you can't with them all" category.

is there some nerd site thhat keeps track of penalties called? Im sure we get the least in the league

We've hardly played for a month, when we did it was against bottom feeders
We've got some important guys out up front
We were playing at altitude against a bloody good hot team
Managed to wrangle ourselves a point in a tough situation

All in all I can't be to disappointed and I think we will be better for the run

When you are up 4-1 a point is not good enough

As advertised this was expected to be a good exiting game and a good measuring stick to see where our Leafs are at.

You can't really gauge much against Covid riddled poor teams like Ottawa and Edmonton in empty buildings. Colorado is a playoff contending team.

Campbell was outstanding stopping over 40 saves some of the highlight variety to secure the Leafs at least a point. Shots were 20-5 in 3rd alone for the opposition.

Plus we were missing one of our most dynamic wingers. I hope it's not long term injury for Kase.

Honestly, I thought it was a fantastic hockey game. Shame that it meant the Leafs giving up a lead, but the Avs are a really damn good team and they were on a mission. We went toe to toe with them most of the game, but they found an extra gear and we couldn't. Missing some key players, playing on the road and in the thin air, I'm more than satisfied with the Leafs. They were working their butts off all game, I think most of them should be pleased with their efforts.

Jack Campbell is the 2nd most important player on the team after Matthews. He is going to become a very rich man this summer, but we are going to be happy because we have an all-star goalie. Whoever we dump for cap will be a productive player on a good contract, so we'll get a boatload of picks and prospects for them. Happy days my friends, happy days!

Combination of not playing many games in almost a month, covid, turning it up half way through the first and the thin Denver air led to the team being gassed in the third IMO. They showed they can play with the best and Matthews showed he can impose his will when he wants.

Why didn’t they manage the players minutes better?

Good question for Keefe. My guess is with Marner, Kase and Engvall out he compensated by over playing the top two lines. Not sure why he plays Muzzin/Holl so much as they were not so good again last night.

I know one of the teams strengths is their depth. Its not of much use if the coach doesn’t trust them enough to give them ice time in an environment where you know the players will be tired.

Great that they got a point, would have been better if they didn’t toss away the second one.

Despite the officiating I thought we played like shit, the effort was pathetic except for Campbell. We should all be thanking him for the 1 point.

Need to play much better than that, the entire second/third period seemed to be in our zone. 50 shots against is completely unacceptable. IDC if Marner didn't play, the effort needs to be there. Embarassing.

There was a couple times we should've got a PP but it went the other way. On a play in the 2nd downlow, I think it was Holl ? Got completely interfered on / cross checked, no call and Avs go the other way. They didn't score but had a dangerous shift. If that penalty is called it might change the flow of the game. Refs sucked balls but our effort was just as shit.

Maybe it was cap constraints, but I feel like tonight's roster decisions subordinated chemistry and icing the most effective lineup to win the game to gestures/promises/"deserved" opportunities. Don't get me wrong, it's just one game in an 82 game season, and that stuff is important, but I think it's important to acknowledge that the F group we trotted out was a mess and far from our best attempt to win.

Missing 1RW, 3RW, 4LW we've got a complete 2nd line (that's really a high end 1st line) and our top 3 complete LW-C pairs. Fill in around that, keep some line identity intact

Ritchie/Spezza/ Simmonds/Seney/Anderson/Steeves to fill the gaps.

Avs fan here checking in to say good game. You guys have a very impressive team. I think it would be good for the NHL if the Leafs make it to the SC finals. The grind it out teams of lesser skill who benefit from refs swallowing the whistle have become tiresome. The way the Leafs play is appealing. Best of luck the rest of the way and please beat Vegas.

Many bitched at Cliffy being on the ice for a goal and late in the game. Not sure about our depth last night. Spezza, Ritchie, Simmonds and Seney, Cliffy and 64 and 65 were MEH last night. Didn't help that JT was terrible last night.
