The so-called best goalie in the world has let in 8 goals in 2 games. If the Leafs get back to playing their game, they're the better team.

Its not about how many goals you let in but the timely ones

That save on Lilly was the game. The goal against Hedman was the game

The 4th line cant dictate the game so heavily with that many penalties. Its Spezza time.

The Kampf unit has to dictate the game more than trying to play down to the Maroon Perry unit. And then let the big boys go toe to toe and try and pump their goalie. Both goalies are beatable.

At least thet built some momentum in the 3rd. Need the captain and Willy to kick it up a gear. We are taking game 3!! We got this!

Nobody is going to be looking to tie up $11 million dollars for the next 3 years in a 70 point player who will be turning 32. Good player, anchor contract.
76 points in 79 games.. since we are rounding, just call him a PPG player

Refs set precedent calling Maroon penalty early. Tampa took note. Simmonds didn't. He cost us today stop defending him. Playoff grit doesn't mean playoff stupid.

As much as I'm an old school pound of flesh kind of fan who grew up with the Clark era runs and enjoyed the Tucker/Roberts Islanders series, it just seems like the Leafs should spend less time on the Maroon, Perry and Bellemare stuff. Save your scrumming and bear hugs and extra shots on Kucherov, Point and Stamkos and save up your big hits on puck retrievals. Play hard, take penalties, but direct it at the right people.
Excellent point. Leafs have only been reacting. As you say, they should be proactively targeting Tampa's most effective players just like Tampa runs Jack, Morgan, and Mitch. Seriously, I'm surprised Keefe hasn't made this tactical adjustment.

Too many overreactions here already after gezame 2. We gon win game 3, period. Prediction: leafs 1-4. We was the better team, clearly. We harder, stiffer and more bloody. We ain't got worried, we gangsta. Gangstas always wizin. Cause we harder and stronger, experienced and WANT mo. Matthews want MO. I see it.

and we need to find a way to counter their 4th line. their annoying 4th line is doing too much damage.

Agree. Why are we not dictating the matchups? Maybe we are, but didn't feel like it.

Spezza in for Simmonds next game?

As others have summized, we need way more from 88 and 91 and need 64, 47 and 65 to be waaaay better.

I put Nylander and Tavares back together.

Next game has to be as tight a game as we have played, this was a sloppy mess tonight.
We were, game 1 and much of game 2, Matthews' line was put out selectively.
Only in the 3rd did he start going out regardless of the Lightning line that was on the ice.

He has been the best player in the NHL all year long, Marner has been right there with him. Make the other teams have to deal with him instead of looking for the "better" match-up.

That has got to stop with Matthews and Marner. They dominate against everyone and have done the same in the playoffs.

Combine that with how putrid Tavares and Nylander have been and it's not good.
Maybe get those 2 back together and make it the 3rd line or something. They haven't merited more than 12 minutes of TOI in the 2 games.

The penalty situation is gross, but they've been dealing with that shit for 5 years now. It's nothing new, and they are by a mile the best 5 on 5 team, so just stay the f*** out of the box.

Simmonds is clearly being targeted by the officials. Started earlier this season and has been evident these 2 games.
The fine was beyond stupid and so was one of the calls tonight, but he needs to know that he has a spot-light on him and be smarter. Knock it off with shit after the whistles, hit and forecheck, then get the f*** off the ice.

The simpler his game, the more effective it will be.

The rest of the team needs to remember they have skates and are allowed to use them.
Move your feet for f*** sakes.

All year long they have dominated by pressuring teams, piling on the forecheck, moving the puck quickly and tonight they did none of those things.

The team doesn't have Vasilevsky or Hedman to not press, so do what made you near unplayable all year long.
