The only adjustment they need to make is stay out the box with dumb penalties. Tampa is done if we keep this 5v5
For the 40th time, WON'T HAPPEN. It's like people weren't really paying attention; the refs were MAKING IT UP so they could call penalties on the Leafs. They're going to call this shit no matter what. It goes back to both Boston series, which were reffed the EXACT same way. The Leafs need to be ready to spend a large chunk of every playoff game PK'ing, because no matter what they're going to be PK'ing.

Leafs finally have a nice balance of grit to go with the skill for a good month now. We can't throw that away just because of the stupidity of one player.

How is this a balance of grit when the grit you have are past there prime and offer nothing in terms of offence. there is zero grit in the first 3 lines. Having grit just on your 4th line with limited minutes isn’t a “nice balance”. You need grit in your top 3 lines, leaf’s have zero of it.

Got to get more out of Tavares and Nylander. and Nylander aint a third line player, dig him out of there. Nylvares been shooting ok. But Matthews should always have more shots on net then any other player. Not Marner (he has been fantastic so its Matthews who need to shoot more, not Marner that needs to shoot less).

Enough with the refs fixing the game...fix ur brain. Tampa is in a,coin flip series vs Toronto

The Leafs style of play in the first game, was frenetic. Best game I have ever seen the Leafs play. But that style of play is exhausting, truly exhausting.

They came out in the first and pretty much made it game one fourth period. Then Kerfoot, a Harvard guy, pulls an Ilya Micheyev and takes one of his hands off his stick and almost begs the refs to pay attention and call this.

Refs were letting it go, so Kerfoot made it even more obvious, to make sure he was called.

The three most suspicious things I have seen so far is Ilya taking two of these please call this, penalties in game one, and Kerfoot taking one in game two.

Anyone with a grade eight education should have noticed in game one, the refs are calling this series square so far, and are setting up a free flowing, high tempo series.

Possibly the smartest guy on the Leafs team, along with Abrueeze, took a very suspicious penalty last night and I am sure it wasn't lost on his teammates. Sure wasn't lost on me.

Leafs were never the same after seeing that penalty, neither was I. Hey I trade index stock options, I am acutely toned for weirdness to make max profit. And those three penalties set off the weird meter big time.

Additional note. Brayden Point was skating far better last night, not a good sign for us. But he was also given room to do so. In game one, Leafs played my favourite style of defence STIFLING. Get in the guys face before he can take a second step.

After the Kerfoot penalty? Leafs backed off their energy level of defence, and well, Tampa, heck any team loves that, being able to breath finally .

Last night was a very important game. Leafs, Kerfoot, blew it. Disappointing.

Simmonds penalty on top of that? Insanely dumb. Surely there is a player in our system that plays a brute style of play that would have taken the last 15% off of his please call a penalty move?

Ref was watching, swallowing his whistle, so Simmonds, takes it to the extreme, and gets called.

To me, suspicious. A guy with his experience, that should intuitively feel the level of officiating?

Either the guy is just totally Pejorative Slured or.........

I know what Keefe likes about the guy, he is like a thug walking into a cocktail party if used sparingly, but last nights penalty is what a 23 year old thug pulls perhaps, who is trying too hard to make an impression

An over the hill thug? Going overboard right in front of a ref. Dumb, or worse. Made me want to switch channels and watch cartoons. It was that dumb.

Playoff hockey is about being uber smart. Look at super weasel Corey Perry. The guy is the penultimate playoff hockey warror. Grooms his game all regular season to become a vicious but smart upper end thug.

Be horrible if the guy beats us two years in a row. But I have to say, I would sign him over Clifford and Simmonds who to me should be players coaches in the ECHL and AHL respectively.

Watch Perry's goal on the breakaway, wow, talk about not only scoring a goal but making it look so greasy and easy. I give the guy a ten for being just a halloween calibre playoff thug. You just cannot help but despise the guy. I am sure Bunting has a grudging respect for this ghoul.

Leafs shot themselves in the foot this game with poor penalties. Special teams were the major difference again. That's likely going to be the narrative of the entire series.

Stop taking pointless penalties. Can't imagine Simmonds is playing next game either.

The good news is that Matthews and Marner look good and are getting results through the first 2 games. Bad news is, where is JT?

Bunting Matthews Marner
Kerfoot Tavares Nylander
Mikheyev Kampf Kase
Engvall Blackwell Spezza
Precisely. It isn’t that hard. Keefe trying to big brain it.

No one is giving nylander a pass

He’s been ineffective…..but still the main player on his line

There are spurs where Tavares looks like he’s the kerfoot/bunting of his OWN line. It sometimes looks like mikheyev is running that line alone

Also, nylander at least had a good series, since Tavares has been signed, he lived up to that contract for 82 games then never again

Both need to be better and game 3 might be their biggest chance
Yes.

11m player can’t drive a line even when playing Center. Unacceptable.

7m winger drives his line unless he is on line 1.

Easily the better player.

A couple key notes. Clifford needs to be back in the game on friday. We need the physicality ramped up again.

I know I might get heat for this but they need to put Kerfoot back on that top line with Matthews and Marner. Kerfoot might not have the physicality like bunting. But he forechecks just as well and is a lot faster. That created problems for whoever was matched up against them.

Put Bunting with Tavares and Nylander and then create a solid third line with Mikhayev - Kampf - Kase

Clifford - Engvall - Simmonds

Give Engvall periodic shifts on the third line.

Anyone blaming that game on anything other than Simmonds and stupid penalties I'm not sure what to tell you.
Sure, Tavares can be better..as could Campbell...but the Bunting goal put them right back in it, and the Leafs were pressing. Building was rocking and the game was shifting.

The Bolt's 4th line goes out and does exactly what the game plan was. Goat dumb players into dumb penalties. It worked. I understand Keefe wants some toughness to help police the game within the game, and Simmonds did a perfect job of that in Game 1. Last night? Directly cost us the game on a non-hockey play.

Only word for it? Dumb.

Played like ass. One extreme to the other. Playoffs are about discipline so far we aren't displaying that. Wayyy too many damn penalties ffs. Surprised we won 5 nothing in game one with all those penalties we took.

Many takeaways from last night but the most obvious one was the consistency in which Tampa finishes their checks vs the Leaf flybys.

The team with the greater will win last night. Shame, the game was there for the taking.

I’m more confident than ever though that they can win this series.

PP and Pk was the difference for sure.
Soup out duelled in this one.

I don’t mind the penalty as long as it’s consistently called.

In the end we needed to score more on our PP.

Just go down to Tampa fill their stands with Leaf jerseys and take the next game back.

We need clean Simmonds and Clifford next game, not boneheaded Simmonds and Clifford we’ve seen in games 1 and 2. It’s one thing to be physical, another to take stupid penalties and take momentum away. Clifford got away with no damage, Simmonds didn’t. And don’t excuse their stupidity with playing on the edge.

I fully expect the penalties will calm down now that the message has been sent. We'll be behaved, Tampa will get their normal leash, just like the Boston series

The Leafs have 2 SHG goals, The Lightning have 2 ES goals this series...They are averaging nearly 15 mins of PP time per game. That's 25% of the game.

Stay out of the box and you win this series. They cannot generate anything against us on ES.

It's just annoying that 30 seconds before Simmonds gets called in front of our net, Kucherov crosscheck's Rielly and gets away with it after the whistle but right away Simmonds gets called.

Part of it is the refs but a big part of it is Keefe wanting Simmonds, Clifford etc out there for much longer than they should be. If Maroon or Perry goon it up, then yeah sure, put them on the ice but otherwise they need to be on the bench.

Yeah, stay out of the box and this series is ours.

This is what I was afraid of and to why hoping Leafs had won game #1 but it was more competitive.

You knew after playing a really poor game in the opener that TB was going to extract revenge in this one.

Well at least the Leafs didn't quit even being down 5-1 and still try to mount a late comeback. They didn't play too bad a game overall but mistakes and penalties the difference maker .

Now its a best of 5 series with Tampa Bay having home ice advantage as a result.
