I don't watch enough Flames games but how much of Markstrom is the fact that Daryll Sutter is his coach
Don't know. I'd rather have a better goalie and supposedly worse 2nd line centre though. At 5V5, Tavares is not posing opponents any match up headache whatsoever.

For those complaining about Simmonds, the crap Perry and Maroon would get up to without him around would be even worse. I think he paid the Leafs jersey tax, no way Maroon or Perry or any other pest gets two after-the-whistle roughing penalties in a game. That said, I didn't like the PK that much today and obviously the PP did not deliver.

Anybody can be a weasel and attack players from behind and get a penalty. We can ask other players on the team to do that if we want - players who are useful in actual hockey situations. We want players to play courageous but it didn't take courage to do the shit he did tonight.

Honestly, I’m pleasantly surprised. I think it was 5-1 when I had to go rock my one month old to sleep. Happy to see it was closer by the end. What I did see wasn’t even that terrible. The team didn’t appear to have zero hustle or collapse like they have in the past. At least the effort was there and with a couple different bounces it could have easily been another story.

Yes against Neil Pionk. I love Spezza and the leadership he shows but I'm talking somebody to keep Maroon and Perry honest. Spezza doesn't move the needle there.

They're still gonna be rats but having Simmonds breathing down your neck after every whistle is a big price to pay
They're laughing at Simmonds and Clifford right now. One is suspended and the other cost us game 2.

They'll take their lumps to get those results any day of the week.

Tavares so far:
  • No offense
  • Doesn't PK
  • Cannot skate or forecheck hard or backcheck hard; always a few steps behind
  • No nasty edge to his game
  • Wears the C

and then you have this twitter nugget

May be Keefe should deploy Tavares like Babcock did; give him a role of shutting down opposition and give him Kampf and Mikheyev. May be that will get him involved in the game

Engvall-Kerfoot-Nylander can run the other offensive line on the road

If Simmonds channels his grit to finishing checks on the forecheck, he can stay in. He was playing the proper grit game to start, got the crowd in the game with a nice hit, but then it went downhill to where he just became a pest for us instead of them.

What are 1/10 on the PP? Straighten that shit out already.

And are Dubas and Keefe ever going to grow a set of balls and call this reffing out? What are they f***ing worried that they're not gonna be fair or something? TAKE A f***ING LOOK YOU GUYS, IT CAN'T GET ANY WORSE!

We have to make our PP opportunities count.

Ideally score, if not then at least get momentum, get their goalie tired moving too much, give their PKers some bruises for blocking shots, SOMETHING! We just keep passing the puck around like morons on PP

Also as much as I love Rielly; not having a point shot on the PP makes our PP just too predictable. Gotta put either Gio or Lily on the 1st PP. Opposition has to respect the point shot. Rielly on the PP just does not make sense.

All of Nylanders goals and points did come first 4 games. Then he too like the rest disappeared
False. He was a big part of the late comeback in game 5 and also scored the only goal in game 7. Only game where he did nothing was game 6

They got shutdown by a smarter team. And the refs sealed the deal. Baited into mistakes.

Let a real opportunity slip here.

Looks like our series is the most penalized

Penalty Leaders.

But is that even possible? Can Tavares even play that way?

Because he's a good ol' Ontario boy and a faceoff man and a leader, he gets this reputation as a "two-way" player but I've never seen it - ever. All I see is an offensive player who has hemorrhaged 5v5 goals against his whole career.

He's a run and gun player, not a lockdown guy. Over the past three seasons, out of 414 forwards with 1000+ ES minutes, he has the 15th highest combined GF/60 + GA/60 in the league. Right up there with exactly the guys you'd expect. OV and Wilson, Tarasenko, Caufield, a broken Toews on a terrible team, Laine, Scheifele, you get the idea.
