Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 4-2

I think that’s what makes him a good leader, he gets shit on from every angle and doesn’t let it affect him. Which is what you want in a Captain, in a pro. He takes the heat off Matthews. I can’t understand how anyone with a reasonable brain can sit here and harp on Marner, Nylander and JT. Then look at Matthews productivity and not say a peep about him. It’s really weird.

Matthews play has been below standard and we as a fan base need to hold him accountable. He’s our best player right? He needs to show up, point blank period

I don't know what the f*** your talking about but JT takes the least heat of any player on this team , the Leaf paid media on orders from mgmt bend over backwards to praise him for simply not tripping over his own feet .

and JT has never led a team anywhere so how anyone can call him a great leader is beyond me

the Islanders were a much better team the second he left and we didn't improve at all with him but yeah he's a great leader and player , he's the Demar DeRozen of the NHL , puts up stats but doesn't hep the team improve

Split up Matthews and Marner, stop playing them 20+ a night. How the f*** is Marner playing 24+ in 4 of the last 5 games???

The minutes should be merit based. You play like shit you're not going out.

It's the middle of the season so trading a core piece isn't possible, firing Dubas likely won't happen till the offseason. It's either fire Keefe or start showing the players you won't take poor efforts

Keefe defends these stars so much, what have they done? What are their accomplishments? Blowing a 3-1 lead to Montreal? Losing to CBJ? Losing to Tampa after being up 3-2? MVPs, rockets, 1st team RW doesn't mean a thing if we suck as a team

It’s too late for that. Keefe lost the respect of the players long ago.

The islanders did not get better because JT left, the got better because they finally graduated young players. Had JT stayed on the island the result would have been the same or potentially better. Again anyone with half a brain understands that concept.

And what are you talking about? The two players that take the most heat is Marner and JT.

The fact that you can come online and say JT takes the least amount of heat in the core is as actually comical.

Matthews and Marner are wasting another year themselves.

They chose to take top dollar. They're the ones who don't perform in the playoffs. They're the ones who are struggling right now

Nylander is the only one who steps up. That's it.

When have Matthews and Marner taken over a series? You see other teams stars do it. McDavid/Drai in Edmonton, Makar/Mackinnon in Colorado, Kuch/Point/Vasi/Hedman in Tampa. Where are these guys? We've made ZERO progress with them

Yeah the depth isn't the best, Dubas has sucked at finding good bottom 6 pieces. But our stars aren't good enough. They need to feel the heat

You're likely right, they push him around. The only choice is to bring in a hard ass

I'd genuinely want Tortorella for the rest of the year but Philly already has him lol

I think Marner’s numbers are inflated because of PK. We have taken a ton of penalties and he’s a key PK’er so his ice time reflects that, but I understand what you’re saying. And I agree, accountability needs to be had

An absolute sieve who is still not giving up a ton of goals for someone playing in his role?

Over the past two years, when he has apparently not been "NHL caliber", he is 39th in xGA/60 and 68th in GA/60 out of the 130 defensemen who played the most ES minutes over the past two years (approximately the top 4 defensemen for every team). 30th in xGF% and 65th in GF%.

For PK, once again out of 130 defensemen, he is 36th in xGA/60 and 82nd in GA/60 (and he is being brought down by a bit of a rough start this year in that regard; he was in the 60's last year).

Can you do better? Sure. Has he made some boneheaded decisions? Sure. Can you do better for 2 mill? Good luck. Same with finding guys who are better and available at any price.

That is why Keefe places a lot of trust in him. He has a lot more good going for him than bad, but with the way he plays, people only notice the bad.

There are much bigger problems going on with this team than Holl right now.

There is a small group albeit vocal group that will defend them without common sense. But the large majority here are feeling the same as you and have for awhile.

We've heard in past seasons, certain someones had some words for the group to get them settled and focused.

Who would be speaking this season? Who has earned the right to? Do they send Spezza down to the room (of course not); and would anyone be willing to even listen?

They (generally) seem so directionless, listless and disinterested from the puck drop. They are clearly not listening to the coach at this point...

Good chance for our captain to get in some of his teammates ears perhaps. Rielly had something to say to the media, maybe he had some stronger words in the room.

Oh, but I forgot, it's only game 9, so no need to worry or be concerned.
