To me, the clear issues with this team are pretty easy to spot.
Toronto has had a team save percentage of less than .900% twenty-five times out of their last thirty-nine games dating back to December 5th. Tonight was another example of Toronto clearly being the better team as a whole, but lost due to the opposition giving their team much better goaltending,
I'm not concerned about their offense, not concerned about their defense (even though I probably should), but am highly concerned that their goaltending could spell trouble if it continues down this path as it has for over 3 1/2 months now.
Kallgren is a rookie goaltender in his 4th game, not gonna point my finger at him. It's Mrazek and Campbell who have me extremely worried, as those two are the ones that have had this downward spiral of goaltending. Sometimes it's due to poor defensive coverage and giving the other team odd-man rushes, but more often it's either Campbell and Mrazek have given up a few soft goals a game on a regular basis for months now.
I tried to calm myself down to not overly react, which I do in the heat of the moment when games like this happen. I don't think any thing I've stated in this post is overreacting and is pretty spot on based on what's been happening.
If they continue down this path and receive goaltending like that against Tampa, Florida, Boston, then it'll probably be lights out pretty quickly.
As odd as it sounds, I'd rather they face Carolina than any other team in the first round. Anyway, it won't matter if their goaltending issues aren't resolved in time.
