So the goal call celly Matthews did really did him in huh? They just won’t call anything

So was it or was it not the right call to not get a goalie at the deadline?

I swear 80% of this fanbase was adamant about needing a goalie but after the deadline they immediately flipped their opinion to it being perfectly OK for Dubas not to get a goalie..

Not at the price for Fleury, and it looks like Varlamov was not available.

Yes we needed a goalie, but not at any cost, and certainly not just for the sake of making a move. Most of the guys were lateral moves at best.

That was my stance at least.

a big part of our problem is the lack of offence from the blueline. 31st in the league in % of goals from defencemen. We can launch a million shots on net in a game and still get "goalied" because the goalie knows exactly where its coming from. I'd like to see Gio lead the way with some rips from the point and ffs get some bodies in front of the guy he's shooting it at.

Allen has played 28 games on the worst team. I doubt kallgren would have better numbers playing that many games on the habs

I think he would. Usually goalies have better number on worse teams. It's harder for a goalie when the shots aren't consistent.

The humiliation word is so f***ing over used here on this board. Give it a rest. They lost, but it wasn’t a humiliation. MTL literally won on a questionable tripping call. We had 50 shots on goal. Obviously you want them to win, but it’s the NHL, shit teams are going to win. Leafs are not going to go 82-0. Not every loss to a shitty team qualifies as humiliation.
I liked by accident

Whether the Leafs win or lose against the Panthers tomorrow, it proves absolutely nothing. They can win 10-0 or lose by the same score line, it really doesn't change much at all. Mrazek nor Kallgren will be in net in the playoffs, it will be Campbell.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, don't put too much weight on any single game till Game 1 of the playoffs this year. Only in the playoffs will we know what this team will accomplish.

Leafs can win convincingly tomorrow and all it proves is that they beat a good team in the regular season...which they have already done based on their winning/.500 records against Boston and Tampa along with wins against teams like Colorado.

I think the issue is when you have a playoff underachiever like the Leafs, the regular season doesn’t matter when they win. But it matters if they lose. And how they lose.

It’s a weird situation, sounds unfair but let me explain. In the regular season you want them to win in high volume, show dominance, show efficiency. But it doesn’t guarantee that the playoff gear is there until playoffs.

On the other hand, losing matters when there’s a pretty clear pattern of losing certain play styles against lower seed teams with talent disparities. Shows you they’re falling into someone else’s asymmetrical play style and could be vulnerable. Especially vs a good team with the same plan. Doesn’t mean anything either but isn’t helpful if you’re looking for a big tune up.

I get what Keefe's saying. We fully dominated long stretches of that game.

Our problem wasn't the opposing goalie - it was that outside of our top line we cannot convert our possession into dangerous scoring opportunities.
Ilya and Engvall had some great looks. Spezza created a couple nice chances. Rielly & Holl created solo efforts with good finishes.

I don't think we're as bad you say, but I sympathize with you.

This has been a problem on the Leafs for years now. For some reason Dubas just has no interest in D who can shoot the puck.

I disagree.

Our team is great at cycling, holding the puck, and getting the puck on the net. But outside of our top line, how often do we get passes to someone in a position to get a good shot off? Almost never. Our forwards (other than first line) have no chemistry and like 9/10 plays die by taking a weak shot into the goalie's chest from a bad angle.

Their goalie made a few great saves, no doubt, but the shots really don't tell much about actual scoring chances.

Frustrating game. I do not want Kerfoot on my 2nd line. I don't even know what to do with the forward lines. Maybe put Engvall and Mikheyev with Tavares? No idea.

We took a lot of grade A scoring chances. We weren't taking muffins from the outside.

That dark blue area... That is where I think people want us to get the vast majority of our chances.

Don’t care about the non-call. If they aren’t used to it by now I don’t know what to tell them. We’re going to get f***ed by officiating in the playoffs too. f***ing adjust accordingly and either score on more than 2 of the f***ing 50 shots you take or don’t f***ing pinch cheating for offence and leaving your D partner alone on a 3 on 1 Rielly!

Really f***ing pisses me off when they keep looking at the refs and then lose the extra step that they could have had to get into defensive positioning. (not tonight Matthews was out) but in general they keep looking at the ref instead of getting back in teh play ASAP.

Its not like they are rookies. f***ing learn to be a pro and move the F on.

My thing is: why does it take a Matthews to cross check someone in the throat or a Spezza to come in with a flying knee? Why are we rostering Simmonds? Why can’t the replaceable players act like the lunatics we so badly need?

Engvall or Kerfoot gets suspended for 6 games, who cares? We have guys we can cycle in. Get angry.

I thought Leafs would lose and not show up. They showed up for the first half of the game. Marner was completely robbed by Allen. This was at least a game the Leafs should've pulled a point out of. Turned 1 into none in Leafs fashion.

Total trap game and although they played like a house afire in the beginning, they drop yet another one against an inferior opponent. Now, it's too many for them to win this division. Should be neck-and-neck with Florida but are fading.

What did they expend losing in Montreal? I guess we'll find out tomorrow night.

They should be fresh and have legs. They didn't expend any energy tonight

I'd like to swap blackwell with kerfoot once blackwell is settled in. Kerfoot centers the 4th line with the 2 college kids when they get here. See how they do and stream Spezza and Simmer in as needed. I'd also like to see Marner with Tavares to balance our lineup in the playoffs. They're not going to do that now because Matthews deserves a shot at the rocket and hart
