Thanks. Was asking because my kiddo gifted me tickets, then heard it was cancelled
Then found out it was postponed and being rescheduled.
Ya I saw the tweet like 10 minutes after you asked me. Disappointed. I'm on vacation next week and was looking forward to that match.

This may well be true, but I agree it's a bad look for the league. Playing a few games at 50% is not the end of the world. Don't the Coyotes play all their games at 50% capacity?

Yes, it is good for upfront watching of games, but if you can only have 50% capacity today, but that same game could bring in 100% capacity during the Olympic break what would a businessman do?

I'd imagine a lot of arenas will be booked during that break so I wouldn't bank on that either

Olympic Break was: 7th. to 22nd. February.
Collective Bargaining Agreement, to pause from Feb. 7-22, 2022 to accommodate NHL Player participation in the Olympic Games.

Calendar | Scotiabank Arena

Lots of free days during Olympic break.
Throw a couple afternoon games before the Raptors.

Not a problem.

I'd bet on them not making up games even if magically it was negative tests across the board tomorrow. The players already accommodated the NHL extending the regular season to late April with the potential of the playoffs concluding in July. The players have made themselves available during this period and have played a concentrated schedule before and after the Olympic break.

All major sports being impacted by Covid.

World juniors now canceled.

Olympics in 6 weeks. That's gonna be a pure shitshow.....

The Leafs could be behind by as many as 10 games before this is finished so even if every day is free it may not be enough

Is there any reason why they can't extended the season by a week or two?

NHL and NHLPA can do just about anything they both agree to.

They already have 15 free dates now with the Olympic break.

Add in taxi squads.

There are dates available, and adding a week or two and it wouldn't be a problem.

Now if it doesn't turn into just mild cases amongst the vaccinated all bets are off.

With the quaratine now reduced from 10 to 5 days, does that mean all our players except for Liljegren who got placed today can come off protocol assuming they test negative? Or do those players still need to isolate based on the original rules?

I doubt they want to extend it, but no doubt in my mind their interest in the revenue for both what the players owe and the franchises want will trump off-season inconveniences.

It's going to be worse than that, Canadian teams are going to be so far behind at this rate they will need the extra 2 weeks while the American teams are going to be finished and sitting on their hands

This isn't a very good plan if I'm being honest

How are the American teams going to be finished, when they have to play Canadian teams?

New CDC rules do not apply to Canadian teams.

NHL cutting isolation time to five days, change doesn't apply to Canada

The NHL is following other leagues and U.S. government guidance by cutting COVID-19 isolation times for players and personnel to five days under certain conditions and where it is allowed by local laws.

The change went into effect Wednesday and applies only in the U.S. because of stricter pandemic regulations in Canada. The league has 25 teams based in the U.S. and seven in Canada; earlier this week, the NHL postponed nine games in Canada because of attendance limits imposed by provincial governments.

“While the changes apply on a league-wide basis, all personnel will still have to comply with the applicable health and safety regulations in their jurisdictions, including the federal and provincial COVID health and safety mandates in Canada, which may be more restrictive than the protocol,” the NHL and NHLPA said in a joint statement.

You’re not allowed to tell other people how to manage their money

The minority of teams are US based, if they start playing again (which they should) they are going to get through there schedules well before the Canadian teams

At this rate the Canadian teams could be 10+ games back, that's a lot of games to make up in a condensed window
