I saw the Domi for Nylander thread and tried to make it work for the leafs.

Habs fans let me know how much you hate it

Petry (1 year rental @ 5.5 ) + Domi (rfa) for Nylander (4 years @ 6.7) + Dermott (rfa)

Its not the worst. I'd probably pass from a Habs perspective just because of how valuable Petry is to Montreal, but its not far off. There's no way that that makes much sense under the cap for Toronto.

No reason for Toronto to do this, they can sign Pietrangelo for free
I love how some Leaf fans want to handcuff themselves again by signing Pietrangelo. They are going to have no depth if they make this signing. They will have to have a 3rd + 4th line league minimum players. Then the same for the #4-5-6 spots on defense.

It’ll jam them up so bad if they do sign him.

It's perfect, and then we will sign Pietro to replace Petry!

Pass from this leaf fan pov. While petry is nice, he's also 32 turning 33 and don't foresee a contract that starts with less than 6 and term on his next deal. Domi is also a fine player and brings a different skillset than nylander, but also has no term and would likely be asking for a contract at 5-6m. Dermott is clearly the least valuable player in the deal, but his value lies in that the leafs can still bridge him at 3m or so based on comps. So at best the leafs walk away even in cap space, upgrade their right side and hope domi can put up 60pts and play with snarl. At worst they get an aging vet who is at the point where his play will start dropping off, an increase in the ammount of cap space being used, and a 40pt domi making around 5m on the third line. Imo, the leafs will be making moves with more cost certainty than this.

Not going to happen. I believe Dubas said he wants a defenceman with some term. I like Petry, but not going to trade 4 years of Nylander for 1 year of Petry.

They can always make trades. Safe to say if he signed here, a lot of salary would be dealt.

Leaf fans advocating for AP are not considering that Rielly is going to demand quite an increase in 2 years time.

AP is not a realistic target.

no reason for MTL to sell Petry as a rental, they can resign him for free.

I also don't want any of Marner/Nylander softness in Montreal.

Grit/too much softness isn't a problem for Montreal, scoring is. Nylander probably isn't going to shoot almost 16% (~37 goal pace) like he was this season any more than Domi was going to shoot almost 14% (28 goals) like last season, but he's a better goal scorer and right shot winger that fits the way Montreal likes to play at ES. There are certainly worse options out there.

Values are close, but Leafs pass.

Leafs have a cap problem. Don’t understand why they have any interest for Petry and Domi when their contracts are ending? They can’t resign them and likely leave after a year, possibly back to the Habs.

Terrible for the Leafs.

Lol they can. Doednt that require petro to sign.

Petro just stated he wants to stay
Armstrong said he wanted petro to stay.

Once army figures out cost and signs petro. He will make the needed moves
