Yeah, that's what I was referring to. Anything from 3 to 5 weeks in quarantine if a positive test. Doubt anyone wants to face such a long isolation period, let alone in China.

If i'm a player and i hear about that kind of mandate that's going to be implemented by the chinese government of all regimes, then i would take a hard pass at these olympics.

I’d rather the team is safe than sorry. I don’t mind other teams getting some games in also. Don’t like when we’ve played so many more games these the teams below us.

The NHL's rules are a little confusing. Or, at least, contradictory to what we've been told.

If the league is doesn't want the Flames playing because of the amount of guys missing, that's one thing. Although the Islanders had to play through when they were missing 10 players.

However, if we are deemed to have potential exposure to someone, we don't need to self-isolate if double vaccinated and without any symptoms. Uncertain why this doesn't apply to sports leagues and its players.
Name one thing about the NHL head office that isn’t confusing

Honestly a nice break for us, we need the rest

Soup gets 4 days off, the game tomorrow, then 3 days off. Combine this with the Christmas break and he's getting a decent amount of time away from the cage. Also gives the skaters time to rest and re-focus as we've appeared to lose the attention to detail lately

Senators just did 5 games in 7 days , to do one of their makeup games, so NHL, not giving much rest for the makeups.

I didn't realize the team flew out to EDM yesterday... that makes me feel they might hightail it back to Toronto after the game tomorrow, maybe take a day off or have a light day on Wednesday... then fly back out to VAN on Friday.

Pietrangelo was quoted as saying a lot of the players need more clarity on the rules aound any positive tests and what that means for them getting back to North America. They cannot be expected to sit there for 3 to 5 weeks (mandated by the Chinese gov't)... that is ridiculous and unless that all gets cleared up by the CIO and/or IIHF I am at Nic Cage level of concern for this happening; just doesn't seem like the risk is worth it for the players (owners have already said unofficially they don't want their players going).

I love the NHL at the Olympics becuase it is the only best-on-best hockey at that level we get to see. The Worlds are great but they are never best-on-best.

Someone reported that a lot of the arenas are already rented out for concerts and stuff during the Olympics break and that’s why it is not as easy to arrange games during that time.
That seems shortsighted by the league. I thought they had two schedules prepared, one if they go and one if they don't.

If the games start getting postponed in the NHL significantly I wonder if they will go to Olympics. NHLPA just raised more concerns regarding the covid protocol for Beijing olympics about pay and quarantine etc...

They might as well delay the olympics for a year or so; not sure wtf they are accomplishing by having a global tournament amid a freakin' pandemic
There's some talk floating around about possibly scheduling the Hockey Tournament in NA, but that's probably just a rumour. I don't think the Chinese govt. would go for that at all.

Extra revenue from concerts and stuff instead of letting the arenas sit empty for 2 1/2 weeks.
Got it, valid point. Not sure how many Owners own the buildings though.
Are there events at the ACC during the break?

That’s what Friedman joked about. I doubt any Cities hosting the Olympics would even suggest that especially the China Govt.

Either way owners of teams or owners of buildings would always want extra revenue.
Not sure about the ACC, but it is not hard to check.

Agreed. End of the day the teams will play the same amount of games in the building though.

Flames games postponed through Thursday as 6 enter protocol - TSN.ca

That sucks.

A lot of idle time out West.
I guess the Team will just fly back after the Edmonton game?

Sucks x 2

Ofcourse.

Which bring an interesting question, how do these arenas plan for playoffs.
Like you can sort of predict would the team make the playoffs and all but you really don’t know how far. Also what if they share the arena with NBA.

Hate to see games postponed and things get worse but if this causes the players to skip the Olympics than it will be a blessing in disguise.

I can't see them going to the Olympics anymore. The 3-5 week quarantine rule if you contract Covid there won't be worth it.

With all the evidence pointing to Omicron being very mild we should just let it run it's course and everyone can develop natural immunity, therefore assuting not losing anyone in the playoffs
