The Leafs have played too many games to date anyways but this could have been an opportunity to get another ugly win to bank for the dog days of the season.

The league inconsistency is absolutely maddening. As far as I'm concerned, assuming no further health implications, if a team can cobble together 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies under contract for a game they should play the damn game. What we have is the league exercising absolute power to grant privileges to 1 organization but not to another organization merely at the whim of those who wield the power. But we should all be used to this by now as it is 2021. This ride is only getting wilder as we're getting continually assured that it's almost over.

I'd prefer to play as many games as possible now then have them all squished in at the end of the season.

we've had more games squished in so far than any other team in hockey.

we could use the break, and it won't squish our schedule much at all later on.

The press release says "through December 16th"

If that actually happens, they can just postpone the game to the 17th since they'll be flying to Vancouver for the 18th anyways.

No they can't because they have Seattle on the 19th can't play 3 days in a row.

Not sure why it's not allowed but it's not

Seems odd that the Flames played the Sens and Isles earlier in the year when both teams had a bunch of players in Covid protocol (then games were postponed almost immediately afterwards), but they get off the hook now.

Too bad. We were going to catch them in the midst of a 3 games in 4 nights situation.

Still would rather have the team not make an extra flight out west just to play one canceled game. Best to get the swing out in one fell swoop.

Presumably the team will take an overnight chartered flight back. They'll be back in their own beds Wednesday, Thursday and maybe even Friday.

Flames games postponed through Thursday as 6 enter protocol - TSN.ca

That sucks.

A lot of idle time out West.
I guess the Team will just fly back after the Edmonton game?

Bummer and hope all the Flames players are not impacted too badly. Defaualt win for the Leafs? lol

I hope the team maybe can stay at some sort of retreat situation rather than fly back to Toronto... though I suppose the players would prefer to spend the time with their families. No doubt the team will do whatever is determinded to be the best for the players.

Yeah exactly. I imagine management will discuss with the leaders and figure it out. I know the rest is good but too much idle time may not be.

Depends If they can get their hands on some ice time I guess. I figure they could... but not too worried either way. We will still have a back to back (VAN/SEA) on the weekend to prepare for.

For me I just think they need a break right now. The packed early schedule plus the current injuries and suspension have them back on their heels a bit imo. I doubt they'll be in worse shape schedule-wise later on.

I've tried to play schedule maker. The only suitable make up date I've found so far is March 21st, 2022.

They could plausibly due it a week from now on Dec21 if that's not too soon for ticket sales and whatnot. Subject to arena availabilities of course.

Omicron might be a blessing in the long run. Its tracking as less severe than other variants and could serve to speed up herd immunity with a far less severe downside.
Question is, why keep testing 100% vxxed teams with tests that give lots of false positives and they are healthy players exhibiting no symptons anyway?

Yeah I think I'd agree although I guess this means they will have to make a special trip out West at some point to play it.

Hopefully this isn't the beginning of a shut down.
Leafs are always welcome in beautiful

Unfortunately Calgary are scheduled to play Anaheim that night.

ah.

maybe the nhl pulls out of the olympics.

or, given how many games look like they will need re-scheduling, maybe they just delay the playoffs a week and tack on some games at the end of the year.

Hate to see games postponed and things get worse but if this causes the players to skip the Olympics than it will be a blessing in disguise.

No disputing this. An unintended break during a stretch like this always can be deemed helpful.

I'm all for NHL participation in the Olympics and look forward to seeing the best representing their countries. But the players need to scrap it for this year and pull out. Just way too much uncertainty surrounding it all, from traveling across the globe in the midst of a resurging pandemic as well as the serious time off one would be faced with if catching the virus while there.

Have you heard about the covid protocols at the beijing olympics? I heard them talking about it on one of the intermissions saturday and they are pretty crazy. Something like athletes who test positive in beijing will have to be in quarentine for up to 3 weeks in china. I had it on in the background and wasn't giving it my full attention so maybe i missed something, but the whole thing sounded pretty wild

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. Anything from 3 to 5 weeks in quarantine if a positive test. Doubt anyone wants to face such a long isolation period, let alone in China.

Not altogether bad for the Leafs with the amount of players currently out of the lineup. A game being postponed for such reasons is obviously never going to be a good thing though.
