Fun fact
Mickey has 2 more goals than Cole Caufield in 23 less games played.

Building on this fun fact ... Mikheyev has as many goals as Cole Caufield, "Calder trophy favourite", is on pace to score this year over an 82 game schedule

He can play a very simple game but gets things done in terms of production. Goes to the net in clean lines, distributes the puck quickly, rips them on net.

I think there are a lot of elements our big guns can learn to be more efficient and less “fancy” but there’s also a ton I dislike about Draisaitl. Bad body language, sullen attitude when things are going poorly, over exaggerated swagger when scoring. Can be so non committal on the back pressure. Throws out a lot of cheap little shots.

If Marner could take few options from Draisaitls playbook he would be much better. Or Willys. It's skill itself to acknowledge those low percentage scoring changes you should take and take as much as possible out of them. Drai has perfect balance on that.

Once again a game where Marner had few 10% scoring chances but opted to look for 5% perfect pass to linemate. Taking those chances would in long run open some good lanes for perfect passes. Now it's just too easy to read Marner.

Take the 2 points, but go easy on the chest thumping.

An Oiler team that is losing to everyone when they have most their key players.

Leafs generated a couple lucky goals, but until the empty net goal didn't put this one away like they could have if the 1st. line didn't look like the 1st. line of last year's playoffs.

Perhaps we give marner a couple more games before we wonder about his headspace. His decisions undermined a few excellent opportunities.

And although Holl received some praise last night, the time it takes him to make a decision is concerning. He seems hit or miss this year, time after time he gets himself and the team under pressure because he just doesn't seem to see his options.

Not sure how Boston used Ritchie, but everyone can see why he didn't get re-signed there. What exactly was Cherry seeing in him?

..but we always beat them ... I think our last loss to them was in 1983? ;)

Toronto is to Edmonton as to what Boston is to Toronto ... Guaranteed win night when we play Edmonton ...

He's the second highest paid winger in the league and he can't score 30 goals. He also doesn't look even close to being a top 50 player in the playoffs.

Either of those things would be a start. Winning puck battles is something 3rd liners put on their resume.

Marner was top 10 for ESG last season, was on pace for 30, and has been putting up 90+ points a season, not to mention he isn't a goal scorer.

The Marner hate is starting to sound like the Keefe/Dubas hate at the beginning of the season, Marner will go on a little run, the powerplay will start converting and everyone will pretend they always loved Marner and they never said anything bad about him.

There has been nothing to trash about Kerfoot since he became what he should have been all along: a top 6 winger.

The difference between Kerfoot this year and years past, is he has matured, before he tried to ram everything through the other team, he would think a 1 vs 5 is a good gamble, hell he'd go through a brick wall because he thought he had a chance to score, now he picks and chooses when he try's that stuff, he is IMO the same guy skill wise but just thinks the game so much better than he ever has. Playing with Nylander and Tavares helps a lot too ;). On that line he does not have to be the hero, where on the third line I thought he was a little too much I gotta be the "guy" type thing.

wasn't the prettiest of games. I still feel like we were the better team throughout the game even though there were some incredibly sloppy moments in our own end

You can tell the timing has been off with our team ever since we returned to play. Matthews has sailed like 7-10 chances over the bar or wide from what is regularly a very dangerous area for him. Even Mr. Reliable Spezza has been terrible the last 2 games, which just doesn't happen. Granted he had been out 5 games prior to the pause as well. I think that's what we are seeing with Marner as well, no reason to panic, he is an elite player. He will figure it out.

Finding a way to walk away with 2pts while bringing your "B-Game" is what good teams do all the time. They are not all going to be Picasso's. Hopefully they can get some more games in the coming days to get that rhythm back

It would be a different look for Marner today if that shot off the post goes in and Matthews doesn't miss the net on that dunk.

Helped that McDavid, RNH and a bunch of other Oilers were not dressed for various reasons including Covid also. :wg:

Nylander shot of backboards, tipped by JT and kicked into his own net by Smith and TJ Brodie missing the net by a couple feet and have it bounce of a crowd and back into the net and an empty netter with 15 secs left looked more like 4 Leaf clover and lucky rabbits foot type luck in this one. Not sure I classify that is what good teams do.

Take the 2 points and forget this game ever happened and move on the next one.

Great to see Willy dominate da game and lead team again .. Willy has da complete tool package for a player .. tremendous flat out breakaway SPEED, a quick and powerfull shot, amazing skill/hands/passing skills and when he gets involved physically like last night and attacks puck and net then he is OUR only COMPLETE player .. amazing to see it

You might be right, however there was one play he made that really pissed me off last night that I don't see getting much attention. Which was when we were up by 1 goal with only a couple of minutes left in the game and he made a no-look backhand pass right to an Oilers player who then transitioned it up the ice and created a decent scoring chance the other game. Same kind of cutesy play as when he tried to toe drag Eric Staal in game 7 last year in the neutral zone for no real reason and got burned leading to our first goal against.

I get that he's capable of making sweet plays like that, but I wanna see him play more mature and understand that there's a time and place.

Never once been impressed by draisaitl. Hes strong on the puck but that’s about it. His numbers don’t match his play at all

We sucked but still won.
I watch almost every oilers game, and outside of the PP, he looks completely ineffective. Defensively non existent.

You have to actually be good to unlock the luck we got on our first 2 goals. You leave out the part Nylander circles out with his head up the whole time on the first goal then snaps it quick. Explain how a non-skill play achieves this same circumstance.

Then on goal 2 it's a face off win, Nylander holds long enough to draw 2 Oilers into him, Marner crashes the net forcing Bouchard in an awkward position.

Your post is a fail, sorry.

I don't understand the Draisaitl is ineffective or unimpressive comments. No he doesn't play anything like McDavid, he's not going to go 1v4 and somehow dangle everyone out. But he's ruthlessly efficient and accurate, robot like almost. If he gets to shoot his one timer on his off wing he hits the exact top corner spot he's aiming for 9/10 shots. His passing is so fast and he hits guys on the tape all the time. I've seen him make one touch stretch passes that hit guys perfectly on the tape consistently. I don't think he's the second best player in the league despite his production, but to me it's impressive that he plays a simple brand of hockey with such an incredibly high rate of accuracy.
