Toronto Maple Leafs (15-6-1) @ Anaheim Ducks (11-7-3)

Welcome to the end of the California road trip! The boys have been enjoying themselves so far. Tonight the Leafs enter into the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, looking to sweep the west coast state. Jack Campbell is expected to get the start for the Leafs and should be up against fellow American net minder John Gibson for the Ducks.

Ondrej Kase missed last game against the Sharks and it looks like he’s going to miss this one as well. Both Kase and Nick Ritchie are former Ducks but only Ritchie will face off against their former team. Maybe this is the game Big Nick finally buries his first of the season? Let’s hope so. Jonas Siegel has also reported that we may see the season debut of Kyle Clifford.

The Leafs will return home for a game against the Avalanche followed by road games against the Wild and Jets next week.

For the most part, the Leafs put together a dominating performance against the Sharks started off by a quick snipe by William Nylander. Both John Tavares and Auston Matthews both found the back of the net as well and Tavares is basically daring Team Canada not to take him at this point.

David Kampf played after leaving the game early vs the Kings which is a great sign and Wayne Simmonds was finally able to turn some of that hard work into a goal. He’s been playing great of late and looks like the Simmonds we say before the injury last year. Below are the line-up sheets for both the Leafs and Ducks most recent games. Obviously things can change but these are the most recent lineups.

The Leafs big boys have started to show up over the last few weeks and it would be great to see a few of them string some big games together and get back over the point-per-game mark that we’ve become accustomed to. The Ducks have been surprisingly very strong so far this year with the emergence of Troy Terry and a re-energized group of veterans in Ryan Getzlaf, Adam Henrique and Kevin Shattenkirk. Trevor Zegras also has all the makings of a future superstar in this league. It should be a great game!

In this house, we cheer for the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS. If you’re still crying about Babcock and Mark Hunter, maybe you should check out Reddit.

My good friend @zeke will post the Game Score Value Added chart in one of the posts below.

I am starting to think Kase is hurt. I can’t imagine that this is another “maintenance day” and you would think if he was good to go, he would play in this game.

I hope he’s back soon.

Awesome GDT!

If the Leafs put the same amount of effort into their game, as you did making this, they should get the win.

GLG!

This is why I like the Clifford trade Kase is out but you have a proven bottom 6 forward that can fill in.

Smart addition
Clifford is also a pretty decent skater and defensively responsible. Which is rare in someone in that "tough guy" role. Not gonna add to the team much in the way of points though. At full health I'm okay rotating Clifford in for a guy like Engvall. We really haven't missed Mikheyev at all, and we should save ourselves the 1.65 mil and grant him is original request to be traded

He is, Keefe said it's upper body.

I would have much rather give a shot to Anderson and/or to keep playing Semyonov over playing Clifford. I don't agree with that decision at all.
Not in love with seeing Clifford either. I would have preferred the chance go to Steeves but being that they are on the west coast, Clifford was likely the default option as he's already there.

I see nothing in Semyenov right now - certainly nothing on the offensive side. He's not laid claim to a top-12 spot, so why not rotate someone else in?

Because I think he needs to keep playing to get better. Same for Anderson, who has been called up a few times and never played. You're not rotating regular player, you're rotating someone that has barely played.

You know what you have in Clifford. We've already made depth mistakes with Barabanov and even Marchment to a certain degree, I'd hate to see more mistakes being done just because we have Clifford now.

We know what we have in Clifford. He has been a sub-replacement 4th liner since leaving LA.

We don't know what we have in Semyonov, and we don't have a lot of time to see what we have in him. He is likely not going to accept staying in the AHL for the entire year, and he has nothing to prove at the AHL level anyways. If we don't think Semyonov can contribute to our NHL squad, then we will likely need to find another team for him (like we did with Barabanov). However, I think he needs a lot more than 3 games for us to properly make that assessment.

It's up to the player to make the coach want to write his name on the lineup card every night.

IMO to get in and stay in the lineup you have to perform. Not sure the Leafs should gift a spot to someone who hasn't earned it on the possibility he can find it. Semyenov has been kind of a space filler, IMO. He looked good in camp, but as the games ramp up......
