I don't understand why dermont doesn't get any love i think he played well and has been having a good season
We like Dermott, he’s been fine, the keyword there being ‘fine’.
But the truth is he’s never shown the offensive flash Sandin has, and has only shown limited amounts of the transition excellence that Liljegren has. He’s a guy who does most everything well and nothing poorly, but he doesn’t do anything at an elite level either.
I know Brian Burke says ‘300 games for Dmen!’, I also know Burke is a moron who’s still patting himself on the back for Mo and the Sedins.
And it’s not like there’s been a lack of opportunity, he’s had several chances to take the bull by the balls. The kid’s played 250 games, 228 RS and 22 playoffs, that’s more than twice as many as Sandin and Liljegren combined, he’d be pushing up on 400 if not for Covid.
He just turned 25, so it’s not the end of the line but he isn’t a spring chicken anymore - he’s hitting the age where toolsy Dmen usually step it up. The age gap between Mo and him is almost the same as the gap between him and Liljegren - Mo is 2 years 9 months older than him, while he’s 2 years 4 months older than Lily.
If he shot right (or was 3 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier) this would be a completely different conversation, but as it stands he’s a #5 who can jump up in stretches who has good tools but leaves you wanting more.
