I don't understand why dermont doesn't get any love i think he played well and has been having a good season

We like Dermott, he’s been fine, the keyword there being ‘fine’.

But the truth is he’s never shown the offensive flash Sandin has, and has only shown limited amounts of the transition excellence that Liljegren has. He’s a guy who does most everything well and nothing poorly, but he doesn’t do anything at an elite level either.

I know Brian Burke says ‘300 games for Dmen!’, I also know Burke is a moron who’s still patting himself on the back for Mo and the Sedins.

And it’s not like there’s been a lack of opportunity, he’s had several chances to take the bull by the balls. The kid’s played 250 games, 228 RS and 22 playoffs, that’s more than twice as many as Sandin and Liljegren combined, he’d be pushing up on 400 if not for Covid.

He just turned 25, so it’s not the end of the line but he isn’t a spring chicken anymore - he’s hitting the age where toolsy Dmen usually step it up. The age gap between Mo and him is almost the same as the gap between him and Liljegren - Mo is 2 years 9 months older than him, while he’s 2 years 4 months older than Lily.

If he shot right (or was 3 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier) this would be a completely different conversation, but as it stands he’s a #5 who can jump up in stretches who has good tools but leaves you wanting more.

I wouldn't take much from this game.

Sens didn't show up and showed little resolve.

I want to say, maybe Sandin needs to play with Holl, as they looked good but see above.

The Senators from last night wouldn't have challenged any team.
Yeah i think Sandin and Holl is Holl's only chance to contribute. Sandin can skate or pass out of trouble. Things Muzzin has been unable to do.

If he was everything you just pointed out we couldn't afford him

If he was a [mirror imaged right shot] or [exact same skills but huge and mean] then a way would be found to keep him.

But there have in the past been guys, will this year be guys (Jack, Sandin and Lily) and will soon be guys (Bunting) that will need new money. Jackie is gonna get a package that can choke an elephant, Bunting will get a good bump and on RFA deals you might get Sandin and Liljegren for a combined 4.

He’s fine, there may be more but I don’t think there’s that much more, he’s young but not green and has another year at 1.5, that’s great for a 3rd pair guy who perhaps has more potential. He could play on every team every night and I think he could be good playing the straight man to a flashy guy eventually, if not he can hold down a third pair.

That’s why I think he’s a casualty, he’s a youngish known commodity at good value, who’s 4th on the depth chart, and why I like him but never really got attached.

the biggest winner of the Christmas break has to be our team. we were one of if not the busiest(most games played, lots of injuries and aches) prior to the break. soup and our injured will have enjoyed the secondary break. for jack getting a extra 2 week break now and at the all-star break may be exactly what he needed not to get burnt out this season.

glad to see ilya back in form after his rough go. half hardily and joking we should vote him in to the asg so he can win the fastest skater

brodie is the stay home dman we have desired for ever the destroyer of 99% of all 2 on 1's lol what a fantastic pick up

just a good return game. first one in a while where we stepped on the throat and didnt let off. we could have easily stopped playing at 3-0 but it didn't happen. actually it might be one of the first times in the babcock /keefe era where we actually embarrassed a team from start to finish

The Holl Sandin pairing looked natural. They seemed to compliment one another. I'd like to see it against a stronger opponent. I didn't know Biega played that physical although some of it was probably first-NHL-game-of-the-year syndrome we often see with recalls.

Ottawa didn't present much of a challenge but still, 2 points are never a given so it was nice to win this one the easy way.

The bad:
f***ing Campbell's SV% goes up again, resigning him is by far my biggest worry.

When the goalie putting up a shutout is the only "negative", it was obviously a good game. But not much of an opponent so no point in bragging about this one or making a long list so I will just mention two things that brought a smile to my face:

Soupy scores! That first one was a nice goal too, hopefully the first of many more to come. Welcome home Soupy!

The look on Nylander's face after he scores, and scores again. No big celebration, not even a smile from Willie, the kid's all business. I'm not sure how to express how much I love that attitude but I am reminded of how Cherry used to rave about Bobby Orr (the GOAT) who didn't go in for celebrations either. I LOVE IT!!

Nylander might even be becoming my favourite player and he seems to be on his way to raising his status from star to superstar! He's been playing great all season and is now tied for the team lead in points. So far he's having an A+ season, hopefully he has an A+ playoffs for us because we're going to need it!

Willy!!

There is no all star game this year. It's an Olympic year. They don't hold all star games during Olympic years.

How the *hell* did Engvall manage to have a minus game in a 6-0 win??

(For @Teeder Keon )
This is how and why ….
Again , not what we need in the playoffs !

Maybe I'm not the best individual to post this but someone should: what is with this impulse to identify a player to marginalize and relentlessly slag the player including things about his physical appearance?
