Matthews with 54 and Mitch with 29 = 73

Auston is pacing for just fractions of a percent off 70 over an 82 game season.

Mitch is pacing for just fractions of a percent off 40 over an 82 game season.

If they can stay healthy for a full season this duo may legitimately hit over 100 goals, combined, next season.

What's their ceiling? Auston 65-70? Mitch 40-45? 50? 100-120, combined?

No matter what happens in the playoffs we can still appreciate this incredible season from Auston. Mitch isnt too shabby either. Now for the interesting question… who comes our for Muzzin? Lilly or Holl is my guess. Cant remember the last time our top 6 was this good plus we have depth in case of injuries

Picture perfect game from the Leafs, hard to find a better game all season then that tonight. Played hard for the full 60 mins, didn't sit back in the 3rd and nurse the lead either, Campbell played well tonight as well.

Will be hard to find the debbie downers after that
That's my music. :) Just wait until Nylander is back. Big believer in addition by subtraction and the whole greater than sum of its parts. :)

Just screwing around. I felt double-dogged-dared.

Marner isn't scoring 50.

He'll likely top out at 35-40.
I don't see why Marner can't have a Huberdeau type season with an extra 15 - 25 goals though.

That would be fantastic.

Lyub 3 blocks and so many good reads, separating puck from player.

Lil is playing great, such poise, that pairing is rarely in trouble. That said, it doesn’t have to be an either/or conversation, Lyub has solidified our D depth and has some attractive qualities that give us a different character back there. No matter who sits, they’ll both be in there come playoffs, you need 8 to make a run. These are good problems to have Leafs fans.

I sit Holl btw all things equal, but even here he’s serviceable.

Giving your best pairing (analytically it;'s not even close since they were paired together) 17 minutes and the Rielly-Lyubushkin pair 20+ when they were having bad defensive games seems like a mistake to me. Gio and Lilly should NEVER be 2+ minutes behind Lyubushkin in ice time.
"Never" is tough for me to say based on game situations and the like. I'll concede that I'd expect Giordano to receive the higher ice time distribution in comparison to Lyubushkin more often than not. Giordano and Liljegren did at least best Lyubushkin on special teams tonight. Fine enough for us to agree to disagree on this one.

Everytime I've seen Matthew's in regular clothes I'm surprised how small he looks. I would guess he's 190 not 220. Maybe he has huge legs.
Hockey players aren't typically heavily built in the upper body - there's a few genetically gifted ones who can pull it off though. They typically carry most of their mass in their legs and core. A big chest and big biceps do almost nothing to help play hockey, just more muscles to effect cardio.

Marner is interesting and I don't expect 50, but he's been different after his injury. If my quick math is correct, and it very well could be wrong, tonight, but it looks like he's on a 53 goal pace since his injury. Sustainable? He had the 4-goaler in Detroit which skews it a little, but he can get very hot as we've seen. Again, I don't expect 50 but the ceiling errs on high side.

Just have Marner on the brain, I guess. Saw a scroll of MLB and saw "Mariners" and swore it said "Marners". :)

How did Holl look tonight ?
Is it justified to keep him in the lineup once Muzzin returns ?
Honestly Muzzin is gonna have to show up if he wants to be in for playoffs. Our 6 right now are playing fantastic.

To answer your question though I thought he looked pretty good. He held onto the puck a couple times in the defensive zone behind the goal line but otherwise no issue from me.

Why would he be exposed when he's better than Holl and Lyubushkin? If Keefe is serious about winning games he needs to actually play his best defensemen the most minutes.
I think Keefe is serious about winning games. He is by far the winningest (percentage) coach in Leafs history.

Is it possible he didn't want to ride the 38 year old Gio too much in the first of back to backs?

Leafs have best player in hockey !!!!!
Matthews is incredible. Just wow. Leafs look like a machine right now

I'm looking at the game recap.
Didn't marner get 1g and 3 assists?

I only see 1 goal and 2 assists on nhl.com
The headline for the recap shows him at 1G and 3A. The actual goals show what you show. I saw the explanation that they took the last assist away from him.

I think Marner could score 50 if we played with that as a priority over winning games a la Ovi's record hunt. If Matthews shot for pads and rebounds over picking corners Marner and Bunting could put up 50 and 40 respectively.
