3 or 4 months with sub .900 goaltending and according to NHL numbers the Maple Leafs are:

*4th in points
*4th in points %
*tied for 2nd in RW
*tied for 2nd with GF
*17th in GA (remember that stretch when things in net were not going well?)
*1st overall PP
*5th overall PK
*Net PP and PK 1st overall
*1st overall FOW%

We have 8 defensemen who are legitimate NHL grade players. 4 of whom are 200 LBS +
We have some of the best talent in the league.
We have the best player in the league.
If Jack is back...

This is a team I would not bet against. GO LEAFS GO

6-2 was totally unexpected, even more unexpected was Tampa deciding they didn't want to get into a slugfest after the 1st period and then instead tried to outskill the Leafs which didn't help them a whole lot either. I had a thought that maybe they we're playing possum or something but that as they say, just don't make no sense at all.

The Leafs are probably playing their best stretch of hockey in a very long time, and I'm not just talking about the last week, I'm talking at least the last 30 or so games. During this stretch they've been without their starting goaltenders or if they were playing, definitely not performing up to NHL standards. However iinstead of folding they just went out and outscored their problems when needed. They have, much to many peoples surprise, played a physical game that completely overwhelmed their opponent and has more than a few times! They showed that not only can they do it, but their offensive game doesn't suffer when they do get physical.

Mitchell and Matty can make it look so easy, in the over 60 years I've considered myself a fan of the team, I've seen some pretty potent combos wearing the B&W, Darryl and Lanny had some great nights and some fantastic and highly productive runs. Those guys were more brawn than finesse, still fun to watch mind you, but I really think that M&M will surpass them and finally do that thing that we all want and that the rest of the league doesn't seem to.

It will be nice to see what the league decides to do with this Leafs team going forward, maybe they'll just leave well enough alone and do nothing, or maybe start calling the stuff that should be called levelling the field and set aside the game management crap. Can you imagine if the Leafs got just the league average amount of PP's?

Solid effort and well deserved win, now it's off too see the Cats and try to grab another sunshine state deuce.

I was watching the Lightning play by play highlight pack. When did Dave Randorf become their local commentator? I didn't even realize he left TSN.

OMG. I mean other than a shut out can't ask for more. I love you Auston! I never expected us to have a player like this in my life time. If only Marner....... oh wait, we have two of them.

You young guys/gals enjoy this, this doesn't happen to us. Hence how easily those two are mangling our record book.

If only we were a contender.....

Bunting can't finish eh. It's matthews and Marner running the show and setting eachother up and finishing plays. Bunting is falling all over the ice, smashing into boards feet first and smashing his testicles on the net poles

That push into the post looked really painful. No wonder he was down for a while there. He creates mayhem around the net, at times disregarding personal health, but it opens space for Matthews.

His third goal was about getting lost while Bunting and Marner were crashing the net area. Great chemistry in that line

How in the Wide World of Sports does Marner not get credited with an assist on goal #54

Hard to see from that highlight but if you view the closeup/different angle, Sergachev intercepts the Marner pass with his foot, then whiffs on the clear attempt and puts it right on Matthews stick. Wouldn't be unusual for Marner to get an assist there but makes sense he didn't.

Regardless, both (Mitch and Matty) were incredible last night.

Just saw the boxscore, Matthews 3rd was unassisted? Maybe I misremembering but didn’t Marner set him up?

I remembered Marner being credited with an assist at the time as well, so I went back now and watched the replay. Marner carries the puck to the goal line and backhands it into the slot, where it hits Sergachev in the skate. Sergachev gets a stick on it as well, negating the assist, but it's weak contact and it goes straight onto Matthews' stick.

Great play and Marner obviously helped make it happen, but no point, unfortunately.

Tampa hasn't beaten an eastern conference playoff team in regulation since December 9th, 2021 (against us lol). They also have just 3 regulation wins in 20 games against eastern playoff teams this year

wtf? When have they been struggling this bad?

I think they are bored of the regular season tbh. I know they have been struggling but it seems like they are legit just slacking in effort in areas here and there just from what I've seen

If I'm a TB fan my concern would be how hard is it to flip the switch? They're not going up against an easy club round 1, it's one of TOR/BOS/CAR/FLA, all elite teams who haven't been struggling. They'll need to ramp it up soon

It's definitely a concern but there is still plenty of time before the playoffs and the playoffs are a new season.

Remember it wasn't too long ago it was doom and gloom over here as well.

Bunting brings something special to that line, though. He brings the F-you attitude, and I think that it's been great for AM and MM. Not bad for sub 1m.
