Surely our luck has to change now right ? Out shot our opponents 101-50 in the last 2 games, absurd numbers.

I’m just curious it feels like forever but when was the last time Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander scored an even strength goal? I don’t think it’s as long as it feels. Just feels like the line has been struggling for a while.
Tavares and Nylander are both -11 +/- in the Leafs last 9 games which includes a 6 game winning streak and 38 goals for. :wedgie:

On a team with Cup aspirations and a +38 goal differential on the season to see these players and negative +/- players on the season, despite the offense they're bringing to offset that is truly is remarkable how much a liability they have become 5v5 at even strength.

A simple flipping of Marner with Willy to see if it stops the bleeding of goals against seems like an obvious solution to address the elephant in the room.

Expecting a relatively easy win tonight.
Thankfully this will be the last late start of the season?

Depends on what you call late I guess? We have two 8pm and one 830pm start still to come.
Also, we are lucking out with this being a 9pm and not a 10pm start.

Being outscored 8-4 the last two games is the absurd numbers. 8 goals against on 50 shots !!!

Maybe the problem isn't number of shots we take, maybe its about the quality and quantity of shots the Leafs surrender? :help:

Something else to take into account is that this is happening with the Leafs having their full and healthy roster available to dress, so player personnel wise this is as good as it gets.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we put another 40-50 shots on Seattle and they wrestled us down to a low goal total. If you look at their blueline it’s just going to be a classic clog everything up affair and then quick turn ups the ice for counter attack goals. It’s probably not going to be Toronto’s preferred environment if the Kraken play their game.

But we haven't been surrendering a high quantity of shots, and the shots we do surrender haven't been of particularly high quality. Maybe we just haven't been getting good goaltending, like literally everything suggests.

It's odd how much you credited Campbell for our successes earlier in the season, but now that our goalies aren't playing well, seem unwilling to acknowledge that goaltenders exist and can impact the game in significant ways.

Is it possible that Soup's performance earlier in the season masked the warts we have on D or is it all on the goaltenders ???

Considering all of our team defensive metrics range from good to excellent relative to the rest of the league (and we look quite good by the eye test too), I'm not sure what particular "warts" you believe were being masked.

The quality of shots we gave up weren't that bad. There was a lot of horrible goals against in the last 2 games. There was some defensive melt downs vs Calgary, 3 goals I don't blame the goalie the other 2 you have to have. One was a face to face shot with the D-man, no screen nothing, you gotta save that.

We just got badly out goaltending. Bad performances from our goalies + amazing performances from the opposing goaltenders.

To be accurate, the game is on Sportsnet Ontario, East, and Pacific. It's a national game. Just listing Sportsnet Ontario gives the impression it is a regional broadcast (blacked out in other regions).

After the first 2-3 months of outstanding goaltending by Campbell he was #1OA in the entire NHL in [Goals saved above expected @ 18.8 goals] ..

He had let in ~ 60 goals against but it should have been 78 goals against, but he was making saves and stealing the Leafs games and masking Leafs defensive play in front of him.

Now since 2022 began Campbell play has dropped to close normal #14OA, exposing Leafs D as his goals against is now 75 and [Goals saved above expected = 8.9 goals]. Mrazek is barely on the chart and a negative -2 goals saved above expected in his 9 games.

Thanks to the Leafs firing some high danger scoring chances and shots against Calgary and Vancouver its bumped Demko to #11 and Markstrom #12 above Campbell now in [Goals saved above expected].

Kerfoot overall has had a decent season, but he’s trending for a 10 goal year, despite playing on a stud second line.

Didn't watch the past couple of games.

Watched some of the lowlights, and they can be misleading, but seems some very stoppable shots are not being stopped.

Can't imagine the Leafs losing this one.

Expansion team near the bottom of the NHL standings with Philip Grubauer in net with a yearly .887 sv%.

After losing 2 in a row you have to expect the Leafs to come out with a real burr in their saddle and dominating this game.

Has the legs, has the will, but just not a top 6 player. Doesn't have the offensive instinct. Still a very good player

Hoping we can come back with Jamie and Penny Oleksiak from our trip
Leafs could use one, I could use the other
