Not an immediate need to get Dzingel in the line up .. Engvall has been steady lately and Mikheyev has been apart of a solid third line.

Would be nice to see Simmonds be given a break but I can understand why he wouldn't be scratched.

Dzingel can go to the Marlies and get some regular playing time as he adjusts to the organization, and hopefully get some confidence.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a team take a chance on Dzingel for free. His cap hit is pretty low.

The 27-year-old is a boring, stay-at-home right shot having a solid campaign in relative obscurity. The 6-foot-2 Russian carries a modest $1.35-million cap hit. He kills penalties and throws hits. He skates more than 18 minutes nightly and starts the vast majority (61 per cent) of his shifts in the D-zone yet drives play forward. He was a minus-6 on a tanking team with a minus-74(!) goal differential.

I love him already

Honestly, this looks like a great trade.
True, trading Ritchie and a pick is to clean up a swing and a miss. But damn, when you look at the signings of Kampf, Kase and Bunting, gotta give Dubas credit. Can't make a souffle without breaking some eggs. Three out of four look pretty good.
At worst not only did we dump a difficult contract, but we picked up some depth.
At best, we may have acquired a 4th pairing defenceman.
Time will tell.
It’s just so much better when you compare to the likes of the Marleau dump which cost a 1st and they got absolutely nothing serviceable in return. Here, they get this:
FMDa7gCXEAAtNRn

who is RH and can lay some body. I feel like he’ll be the Bogo this year, who I loved last year

I dont think Lyubushkin is better than Holl is he?

If not, we definitely not done for the tdl

Sorry just not a fan, he definitely is polarizing.. if we can package him and Dermy for anything decent, we should IMO.

I think he could use the body more on the forecheck, but beyond that, just seems like the critique is he isn't a much better impact player like Roope Hintz or something. Of course I'd package him off for a massive upgrade but for what he is, it's okay.

Pretty much all deadline deals ever. Dzingels not much, but veteran depth forwards bring a mid-late round pick at the deadline. Big physical RHD than can play PK and handle matchup minutes bring something better. Some Arizona fans wanted a 2nd for Lyubushkin, others a little less.

We got both for a 3rd. We did not pay anything to dump Ritchie.
well that didn't take long to find out Dzingels true value , lol

as i said in my previous reply to you , waiver level player

So with us putting Dzingel on waivers today, does that mean we clear his 1.1m off the cap? Assuming he goes through waivers?

I don’t really understand the Lyubushkin trade tbh. Don’t get my wrong I’m glad to get rid of Ritchie but I don’t think Liljegren deserves to sit, I think he’s been good. I think it makes sense if they upgrade second pair right side and then can alternate Lyubushkin or Liljegren depending on the opposition

Makes perfect sense. When you have a heavier matchup Lyubushkin goes in. Other times it's a rotation of Liljegren, Dermott. When you have an injury you have an extra big body.

It's not a better / worse thing.

It's a different thing.

Lyu will be better keeping the puck away from the front of the net when we have a lead.

Holl moves the puck better.

The Leafs haven't had a Stay at Home Right D during the Matthews era.

Our D has skills but loose puck and man in front of net clearing arent among them.

In the Leafs system, you need a good first pass on transition breakouts. All those guys could do was flip the puck out or ring it around the wall. That killed any offense as they were just trying to clear the zone any way possible.
It's not like the Babcock era where defensemen need to make quality stretch passes. Lyubushkin wins a lot of puck battles, rarely turns it over, and can make simple quick passes to get the puck out. I don't see any reason to believe he'll hurt the Leafs in transition. His biggest weakness by far is making plays in the offensive end, but he won't need to do that

Dzingel doesn't play the PK .. and I also wonder if this has to do with Sandin not practicing. Maybe they want to keep Liljegren up/in the line up.

IMO Dzingel could use the Galchenyuk treatment in terms of going down to play with the Marlies to regain some confidence.
Averages 26 seconds PK time this season. Which isn't a ton, but it's not nothing

You could even say Holl would be a better player for us if making offensive zone plays was taken off the menu.

I kind of figured one of Engvall or Mik was on their way out and that would create a better chance for Dzingel but he might just be depth and insurance. It will be interesting to see how this trade might connect with the next deal. He hasn't played a minor league game since 2015. If he goes there hopefully he seizes the change to get things going.

Looks like valued Liljegren more over him which is good.
nice way to try to spin it but we now have 8 D and Lilly didn't need waivers to be sent down , so what this means is the Leafs place zero value on Dzengal and he was only included in the deal so the yotes could clear some salary

If not, we definitely not done for the offseason

I think we need to ask what is better when comparing Holl and BUSH.

Holl is a decent skater and pretty low event.
BUSH is also low event and a physical presence.

I take the physical presence with our roster construction.
