Holl is a 6-7 being carried by elite players

He's been ass in the playoffs, and ass all year

We need guys who will flatten someone instead of using their stick like Holl does all the f***ing time

I agree 100% nothing worse than seeing a 6'4" 210 lb D man that doesn't use the body more. I think that's the biggest problem with this team the way Dubas has assembled it. We strike no fear in opponents when it comes to the rough stuff and unless that changes the playoffs will continue to be the same.

Dubas is on a row, lets plan the parade ladies and gents lol
On a row? Why not a column?

Dzingel bells, Dzingel bells
Dzingel all the way
Oh, what fun it is to have
A player who can play
Bazinga!

Exactly. I don't see the downside here.. at worst it doesn't work and we cleared 2.5M cap hit off the books to allocate elsewhere.
Pretty much. Getting out from under his contract for 22-23 was essential.

dzingel is better than engvall for how we play i think. he can be a PITA to play against, can fight a bit, is faster than pierre and hovers around .50 ppg in his career(until last year), they are both streaky but pierre does a whole lot of nothing if he isnt scoring whereas ryan can contribute in other ways. i like it. hes a 3rd liner at best atm but maybe he can be like a bunting lite for a different line, time will tell.

Ok but if that is the standard, we have a bunch of guys who have done the same, and unlike Lyubushkin, they are usually standing up for a teammate.

I doubt Lyubushkin even wanted to fight him. He just gave Maroon a hard shove, which is not unusual in those situations and something the Leafs do all the time, and Maroon ended up wanting to fight. Lyubushkin probably regrets it considering he got crushed.
We have Simmonds and maaaybe Muzzin and the rest are daisies who turn the other way if you flatten a teammate.

Muzzin-Holl sucks
Muzzin-Sandin sucks
Muzzin-Liljegren sucks

and all you guys keep talking about is how to get rid of Holl lol

I've been saying it for months now. We need to find a way to trade Muzzin, he is washed. Whatever image or perception from the past is dead now. He was super underrated years ago and now he's substantially overrated. It's as dramatic a drop in effectiveness I can remember and we can't afford to hope he turns back the clock at that AAV.

If they aren't going to give him a shot, they should just waive him then and try and reap the cap space.

He doesn't need to be a 40 point guy if he is willing to play a meaner, more tenacious game than some of our players. The function of such play alone can lead to playoff offense with the cast of Leaf players we have. Consider Galchenyuks play with Kerfoot last playoffs. A little drive can go a long way if teammates can get you the puck.
lol not like engvall is a 40 point player either.

You have to think the trade is a bit of win just because they get rid of Ritchie's second year. I don't see anything that Dzingel brings they couldn't get in a waiver pickup but the change of scenery could bring something back. He doesn't PK though and isn't any good on the dot so he seems like a 13th guy. With Lyubushkin someone commented on him as a Bogo replacement and there are similarities to their games. The numbers say he is a low event guy which is really hard to do on the second worst defensive team in the league. His chances of bringing value for the rest of the season seem to be a lot greater than Ritchie's so I like the deal, although it doesn't move the needle for them.

Sandin sitting out practice today. Might be injured, or might have been the one demoted to make room for the new guys.

Either way I expect dzingel to be waived asap.

i am getting worried about Muzzin. He has not been right all season.

Could be an injury to that hack to the wrist he took last night.

We need a radio gudas type dman….. someone with a little snarl. The 8 we have couldn’t beat up Marner.

dzingel is .270 ppg this year(worst of his career) playing on a terrible coyotes team that cant score to save its life(30th in the NHL), can fight, uses his speed effectively, and has a history of scoring at a decent pace

engvall is .377 pgg this year(best of his career) on a top 4 offense in the league, doesnt fight or or use his size at all, and uses his speed for turning back in the offensive zone usually. basically doesnt provide much of anything if he isnt scoring, which he tends to do in spurts of 5 - 6 games before going back to being useless for the next 20 games right after.

why are some people assuming dzingel is being waived immediately? i dont see it.

edit: dzingel is actually scoring goals at the same pace as engvall this year too, even during his worst offensive year of his career.

Funny, that the cash scrapped team goes after a player that has a salary that doubles next year.

Arizona only has 5 players under contract for next year, and need to add millions upon millions in contracts just to get to the Salary floor.

Getting a 2nd round pick to do the Leafs a favour also does help them become cap complaint next year, and they have to give the money to someone anyways.

Arizona has already accumulated 8 draft picks in the first top 60 picks of this upcoming draft to help them in their rebuild process while they take on other teams contracts they want out of.

Watched that Russian guy get rag dolled by Maroon. Holy smokes, did Maroon ever seem like he was having the time of his life. It was in front of his hometown crowd and he milked it.

If Lyubushkin works out in the next 34 - 58 games (including playoffs) you could double his salary, have a serviceable player and only be paying 200k more than Ritchie.

I'm happy they went with a random Western Conference banger in Lyubushkin. There are so many guys in that conference like him, Mikkola, Bortuzzo (whom we saw last night), Hakanpaa, Middleton, Megna, etc. that those teams like to build with. It's nice to away from the Eastern Conference and Canadian market offerings where you might be paying a real premium. Hopefully the pro scouts are looking at the right things.

What does it mean to be cap complaint? Can you explain?

I don’t really understand the Lyubushkin trade tbh. Don’t get my wrong I’m glad to get rid of Ritchie but I don’t think Liljegren deserves to sit, I think he’s been good. I think it makes sense if they upgrade second pair right side and then can alternate Lyubushkin or Liljegren depending on the opposition

Very few teams limit themselves to 21 players. That is something the Leafs had to do because of cap space.

They now no longer need to do that.

Dermott is probably on the block right now, but even if he's moved, it'll probably just mean a more permanent spot for Liljegren.
I agree that there’s probably another trade coming but they need the cap space to do that and Liljegren doesn’t need to clear waivers. At worst he’s back up for the playoffs.
