I think it's a solid deal personally. We dump Ritchie and gain two solid depth players. Dzingel has been playing on an atrocious Arizona team.. reality is Dzingel is a complimentary player that needs good players around him. Lyubushkin fills a role we've been trying to fill since Bogosian left. If anything it opens up another trade to happen with Dermott + forward for another usable piece.

The picks are irrelevant IMO. We get a stay at home D & a useful player that can play in the bottom 6 at the least.

We've discussed Lyubushkin several times this season as a target.

I really like this move. A 34 game try-out and probably a player who could be re-signed for a manageable amount if he works out. 27 years old?
He'd be 28 years old next year,
It isn't April 1st. is it?

Haven't seen enough of Lyubushkin to have a strong opinion one way or another, but if it keeps us from overpaying for Chiarot, then I'm happy.
I think this definitely kills any Chiarot rumours. If there’s any more changes on the blueline, it should be for a legit top 4 defenceman. Something Chiarot definitely isn’t.

Exactly. I don't see the downside here.. at worst it doesn't work and we cleared 2.5M cap hit off the books to allocate elsewhere.

Exactly. As good as Bunting has been for us, I don't think I have seen him drop the gloves. Krug has now suckered him twice and gotten very little response from Bunting. Bunting needs to clock somebody so punks like Krug think twice about punching him in the back of the head.

It's just not in his game to drop them. Funny I was listening to him on TSN1050 on Friday and he said he models his game after Tucker, and although there are similar pest-like qualities, Darcy was not afraid to drop the mitts when he had to. Krug needs to get dropped in a big way.

He's still shell-shocked from having to carry Holl all this time.

This year the truth is closer to Holl carrying Muzzin, unfortunately.

It's pretty funny that Holl gets so much shit while posting a +8 and a 55xgf% in top matchup duty in full 2nd pair minutes while being on the top unit of one of the best PKs in hockey to boot.

I think they have very few guys under contract for next next season. Going to have to work hard to reach the floor

They could just overpay a couple players by a huge amount for a year. I'm sure there are swan song UFA's who'd take a 1 year deals at double their value, in a no pressure scenario.

Hey, maybe that's Ritchie

Now that we have Dzingel honestly I'd go something like this

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Dzingel-Nylander
Mikheyev-Tavares-Kase
Engvall-Kampf-Spezza
Simmonds

Rielly Brodie
Sandin Lyubushkin
Muzzin Liljegren
Dermott/Holl

Campbell
Mrazek

** Rotate forwards/Defensemen in and out of line up as we are set to play a lot of games in a short time in the upcoming months.

*spread out offense. You have to get more out of Tavares against 3rd pairing D-men and really low QoC where JT line should win competition on most nights.

*** Hope this plan works against Tampa/Florida

Ambitious, but JT is firmly cemented at 2C and Keefe will never move him from there unless Papi is out of the picture for whatever reason.

Definitely made our lineup deeper here.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot- Tavares - Nylander
Mikheyev - Kampf - Kase
Simmonds/Dzingel - Spezza - Engvall

AHL - Clifford, Robertson, Anderson, Steeves

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Lyubushkin
Sandin - Holl
Dermott - Liljegren

Campbell
Mrazek

Not many holes on this lineup.

*Note: I do not project Lyubushkin as a top 4 guy, I just think it would be an opportunity to disperse time between pairing 2-3 evenly. I've liked Holl with Sandin, and Lyubushkin is very good defensively which could make a shutdown pair with Muzzin.

Will be curious to see what is done with Travis Dermott, wouldn't mind to see him moved in a package if it were in a for better 3c or better RD.
IE: Braun from philly or Miller from Buffalo and one of Copp/Stastny/Paul

Other than that I think this is an almost ready playoff roster.

The fact that the Yotes board is unhappy to see him go (as they were with Bunting) is enough for me as long as he can hold his own in the bottom pairing - which I fully expect he will. We made our mistake with Foligno last season, let someone else pony up a 1st for Chiarot.

Disagree. If JT doesn't produce in the first couple of games in the first round, you need to demote him.

Looks like we can make another acquisition or two by consolidating our depth. Engvall/Dermott type trade to add more value
I hope we hold onto Engvall, especially with Mikheyev being a UFA that most likely won’t be re-signed this off-season.
