Trade served it's purpose and you have to imagine there will be more to come.

Lyubushkin
Sandin
Lilly
Holl
Dermott

Rielly-brodie

Yeah, they probably see it as something like that.
Holl was on the bottom pair last night?

When rating this trade adding 2 NHL depth players on expiring contracts are worth a future 3rd or future-future-2nd round draft pick.

Add in the fact that Arizona acquired a negative value player that was available for free 2 week ago makes this a bit of a head scratcher from the Arizona perspective.

Couldn't Arizona have gotten a 3rd for Lyubushkin alone if they were patient??
I was thinking that too .dubas too dzengle too tho
U might not gor a 7th for him

he was until the Liljegren turn over and then they moved him back with Muzzin
Thanks, rough night for the D all around.

I don't know enough about Lyubushkin but from reading it looks like Dubas still needs to add a mid pair player.

i think he will Get another dman, I have to think Dermott out for a guy like Braun. Gives us 8 solid defenseman to rotate through. I know a lot of fans love Liljegren, he is going to be a player. But there’s no way you can trust that he won’t make a costly mistake in the playoffs. It just happens too frequently at this point.

I’d have to say the same for Sandin. You may want to sprinkle them in, but they shouldn’t be regulars at this point in the playoffs for a deep run.

This is a fantastic trade lol. The Ritchie contract was DOA, but if Dubas can wheel and deal his way to a get out of jail free card, that's awesome. Two NHL bodies for a cap dump and a draft pick is outstanding.

I am both surprised and not surprised that Ritchie still had some value. He's awful, but he's been bamboozling GM's into money and minutes for years now, so what's one more? He'll get his chance on a bottom feeder, contenders are done with his nonsense.

Will depend if they want to carry 7 defenseman or 13 forwards. Doubt they’ll do both. They won’t send Dermott down because they risk losing him getting claimed. Do they like Dzingel better than Dermott?

Very few teams limit themselves to 21 players. That is something the Leafs had to do because of cap space.

They now no longer need to do that.

Dermott is probably on the block right now, but even if he's moved, it'll probably just mean a more permanent spot for Liljegren.

Depth is certainly great but there is a big hole on the middle pair that needs filling.

We needed a Bogosian replacement and Ilya sounds like he fits the bill. Dzingel has offensive talent, but he always seems to be injured. However if it means seeing less of Engvall, then sure, let's go.

And makes sense considering the leafs apparently tried to find a Bogo type in free agency but couldn't find a contract worth inking.

He seems to fill that niche
Good memory. Reportedly tried hard on Hakanpaa. Similar player here, it seems.

you could say the same about Muzzin/Holl unfortunately

Sure we have the pieces to make a lot of moves. Lyubushkin does literally what we would want Chiarot to do. It would be redundant and I am not even sure Chiarot is materially any better then him.
Yep I don't disagree.
Guess it depends on how Dubas views Lyubushkin vs Chiarot.
A top 4 defenseman is a need, does Dubas feel he filled that last night?

Love the trade.

Ideally the next move is something like Pysyk in and Holl out with a net positive in assets returning.

Would allow us to keep 8D on the roster before getting into the Kral/Biega/Dahlstrom mix again.

I don’t actually dislike chiarot as an option, as a player. That asking price though, just isn’t something I’d entertain for him. And especially not for a rental.

in a lot of ways though Chiarot would still tick some clear boxes for the Leafs. I think he can move the puck well enough, and he definitely plays with the kind of edge we covet.

Maroon is a tough scrapper, losing to him is no sin. The important thing from that video is Babuska dropping the mitts.

Exactly. As good as Bunting has been for us, I don't think I have seen him drop the gloves. Krug has now suckered him twice and gotten very little response from Bunting. Bunting needs to clock somebody so punks like Krug think twice about punching him in the back of the head.

Mikheyev is just good at PK when it comes to playoffs they need more grit on 3rd line . Someone that pushes back , someone that hits dman , someone that scores .

so your solution is to trade the better of the 2 players ... good plan .

What is worse. Being traded to Arizona or Robidas Island?

Maybe Robidas Island is in Arizona.

Sounds pretty good.

Adds a bit of depth to forward and defense, and gets rid of Ritchie's cap hit for this year and next, for a mid-tier draft pick either 2 or 4 drafts away.
