Nice of Marner to do this. it’s good to help out the community

Serious question, who's his dad and and why is he an idiot?

Haven't heard that particular Leafs drama.

I'll take Marner off your guys hands gladly!

Typical A-hole hockey parent. I've also seen lots of talk online that he was very vocal online early in Mitch's time with the Leafs where he was talking shit about Mitch's ice time, line configurations and arguing with people online that he is better than Matthews. To the point that apparently Lou had to call him in to tell him to stfu. Most people figure that his Dad was one of the biggest reasons for the difficulty in negotiations for Marner's contract along with having Darren Ferris as his agent who is also known to be a difficult person to deal with.

I might be wrong on some of this just going off stuff I've seen talked about online. If anyone else has anything to add, feel free.

Good for him. Great thing for anyone to do regardless of motives. Still, curious how the press found out. Would be more impressed if he just made donation on downlow and didn't care if anyone found out, than if agent or Leafs PR informed media.

Right.

At worst he's a horrible human trying to manipulate people to believe he's a great guy and people in need, get fed. Or he's a great guy who did something thoughtful and people in need got fed. Win, Win, Win... WIN!!!!!!!!!!!

My Gramps taught me true charity does not require a receipt. It's good advertisement for his charity though , give him street cred when his charity goes hat in hand looking for donations.

LOL.. a cynic I see?

Google Mitch Marner charity event - lots of examples of his charitable work... before last summers pile on.

I worked with different marketing ploys. Making a logo and slapping it on t-shirts is step number zero.

I gave 10$ to a bum under a bridge on Friday. Thats charity. What they are doing is a concerted marketing campaing.

Meanwhile people in need get fed and the bum under the bridge gets money for his next fix.

Has there ever been a more polarizing Leaf? He can't even do charity work without it turning into a debate. Dunno but I'd want to get out of town as soon as I could if fans were talking about my family and such.

It’s stuff like this that make me laugh when people vilify him as a person, literally the most generous, empathetic guy on the team, that gives back to the community. He’s a better person than his detractors in here, that’s for sure.

Okay back to the lonely lynch mob…..

Mitch gave a'few thousand dollars to buy some food from his million a year

What's that like 50$ from a normal persons salary.

More playoff points than any other Leaf since he joined the team.

That’s not saying much. Pretty clear he’s been abysmal in the last few playoff rounds.

It’s the same story. At the beginning of every playoff game the other team takes a big run at him or hammers him into the boards and he starts avoiding contact and handling the puck like a live grenade for the rest of the game. Very Pavlovian.

For whatever reason he just can’t seem to break through.

It’s not a size issue because smaller players in this league have taken beatings in the playoffs and soldiered on.

Pairing him with a tougher player who has instructions to keep him safe is probably necessary. However that player can’t be a liability on the ice.

He might be a Good Samaritan off the ice but he’s not worth his inflated salary.

Reading some comments here. Not all but alot. Makes me question if we even deserve nice things.
We have a great young player giving back to the hungry. Ànd we still have people finding things wrong with it

Apparently Mitch will only be recognized a decent and charitable human, once he performs well in the playoffs and the team wins at least one series. Until then, all efforts are for the toilet

its christmas, so im trying to hold back on saying what i really feel about some of these comments. its hard to believe that somebody could actually feel that way about somebody giving.

marner is in the public eye, I'm sure you've read stories about Gates, and the billions he has given away?

Comes with the territory, adulation and condemnation.

fixed that for ya.
His actual brand seems to be doing quite well, despite what a handful of randoms on a declining message board repeat over and over lol.

I'm a pretty cynical guy, but I personally reserve my cynicism for people like politicians who actually have real power and affect people's live in the day to day...not an athlete doing charity, who wouldn't get flak if he chose not to help people out.

The guy does a great thing for charity and people still here shitting on him for last years failure. This is why we can't have good things in Toronto smh. Good on Mitch to be giving back.
