I thought this guy was probably the third or fourth best of the American defensemen at the Hlinka. Good skater, pretty good defensively. Has good enough size at 6'0 195. I think he's drafted in 2023. Committed to Nebraska-Omaha.

A big favorite of mine. Thought he was one of the best players in the 2023 draft that didn't get drafted. But I get it. He's a simple defensive defenseman that isn't too tall for a defensive defenseman, so it was no guarantee. Definitely was better though than all four of the NTDP left-handed defenseman that got picked this year. Putting it another way, he would've been a certain selection had he been picked for the NTDP a few years ago.

Had 5 points in 54 games for Des Moines last season. Headed to University of Nebraska-Omaha next year. A chance he could get drafted in the next few drafts, and if not, I think he'll be a good candidate to be signed by an NHL team as an UDFA in 3 or 4 years.

My scouting report from his USHL season.

Good defensive defenseman prospect. He’s only about 6’0 and lacks big offensive skills, but he’s one of those players that qualitatively is good at defending in his own zone. Whether it’s winning puck battles, using his stick to break up plays, being well positioned, using his skating, strength, and physicality, along with good hockey sense, he gets the job done. He can move the puck, but he’s a minimal offense guy. I watch Ryan Lindgren play every game, and the similarities are 100% there. Doesn’t hurt they are both from Minnesota. If Gramer was playing at the NTDP, he’d undoubtedly be a much higher pick. Smaller defensive defenseman playing for one of the worst teams in the USHL, very unlikely to be more than a late round pick, but I think someone will take him, and they will get a steal. He should be a mid-round pick, potentially as high as late 2. He’s in the same tier as those top NTDP defensemen.
