He is the 4th round pick of the Regina Pats and currently 15 years old. Should be on the team next season I guess is when he is eligible to join.

He has been making the rounds on the internet as he is at Regina's training camp happening right now............. and to say he looks young would be an understatement. I guess Regina's GM had to explain that he was in fact a prospect for the team.

I don’t know why people are making fun of this kid. If he was so tiny that it was dangerous to him, he wouldn’t have been drafted into the WHL. No team is drafting someone 4’11 and 90 pounds. He was taken because he’s capable of playing in the WHL in the next few years. There have been unbelievably tiny players that have had successful hockey careers. He didn’t cause any of this attention to himself either. He shouldn’t be picked on.

I see it as more of a positive than anything. If he is this capable while not being physically mature whatsoever, imagine how much room for growth there is.

Its better than drafting a 14 year old kid with a beard that has zero puck skills and can’t see the game

I agree.

Buyer beware on guys that physically mature too early. Period.

That said, there is a size limit below which it's highly unlikely you can make an impact at pro hockey, so we will have to see how he grows.

EDIT: as a personal story, I went from 5'1" to 5'9" in 7th grade alone. Ended up at 6'0", the same height as my younger brother, but he grew steadily and never had the one year of growth pain agony.

he's not even that short as people describe him

he's 5'6" if we believe elite prospects look like a kid so probably hasn't hit his growth spurt plenty of time to grow

He's short with a baby face. He's only 14 (age 15 season is 2023-24) so he wouldn't even be eligible for the WHL absent exceptional status (obviously not since Bedard is the only WHL player to receive exceptional status). Given his draft positioning and lack of physical maturity, making the team in a full time capacity in his age 16 (2024-25) season is a longshot. So we're looking at a kid that will likely be in the WHL two years from now in 2025-26 assuming a normal developmental curve at this point.

I'm not sure if most people don't realize it's actually relatively rare to play Canadian Major Juniors in an aged 16 season. It's just that the NHL prospects you've heard of all did, so I think people assume that's the norm across the board. Most kids however complete their 2nd year of "Midget" AAA hockey and then move on to juniors the following season.

This kid is just small, it's a relatively nothing berger. I feel kind of bad that this kid's interviews are blowing up as a discussion point. He's a talented enough player to get drafted into the WHL and make an appearance into camp, he'll need to get bigger to have a chance to really progress. In the interview itself, he sounds like every other 15 year WHL prospect.

He actually isn't that small given the fact he clearly has not matured yet.

I was 5'3 when I was 14 and physically undeveloped. I was 5'11 by the time I was 17

Guys relax let’s see the mom and dad? At 15 he might be all done growing? He is a typical Canadian Academy kid. Small and lite it’s why parents send kids to them their leagues are less physical then AAA leagues! NCAA won’t even look at him at 16 at this size! If he got rid of the stupid looking haircut he might actually look 15😀

He looks young, yes but I think alot of people out there don’t fully understand just how the WHL draft process works, from what I’ve seen online.

This kid probably won’t sniff WHL ice full time for another 2 years.

Sniff lol they draft these hi skill lil kids in case they grow, kid don’t grow or gain 50lbs WHL is a real long shot! After 16 it’s a big boy game!

Adam Lowry was the same way. His first WHL picture is hilarious. Now he’s going toe-to-toe with Ryan Reaves. Maturing happens.

Why do they draft and have them in camps so young? Must make projection harder than the O and Q where they're already 15 when drafted.

Reminder that this was Johnny Gaudreau at 17:

He was so small, he tried to tape pucks to himself during the combine weigh in:

Sometimes its a good sign that a kid looks a lot younger than he is....

Don’t quote me on this, but I believe they draft a year earlier than the other CHL leagues so the kids and their guardians are able to better prepare for the kid’s education. It gives these kids an extra year to weigh their options.

It definitely makes projections more difficult than the OHL and QMJHL, that extra year is massive for alot of these kids, there’s a reason you see more late round steals from the WHL than the other two Major junior leagues.
