Montreal's new light-rail transit system had a bumpy debut on its first full day of operation as a problem with the track forced a shutdown at the height of the morning rush hour.

The Reseau express metropolitain, or REM, officially launched Monday for paying passengers after more than 120,000 people tried out the system for free over the weekend.

A spokesperson for the REM said a switch problem on the tracks caused service to shut down at around 8 a.m. before it resumed at around 9:15 a.m.

"There was a technical problem on a switch. It's part of the tracks of the REM, it was a situation that needed a field team to repair it," Jean-Vincent Lacroix said.

A problem with a switch on the track was to blame for a service interruption during rush hour, a REM spokesperson said.

Apparently his dad died last week and he was having a hard time with it. So very sad.

Absolutely heartbreaking. I'm a fan of the show, and his character. He was so talented. Mental health is no joke. And it's so heartbreaking that this happened. Being in a headspace like that is something I don't wish on anyone. Been there. This kid was only 25 years old. His best years were to come. Just so sad. Sending prayers to his family and friends. And his co-stars. This man was loved. It breaks my heart he couldn't see how much.

Rest in Peace, Angus.

I bought these tickets 3 1/2 years ago at a heavily discounted price expecting to do this in 2000 but the world stopped.

The train leaves Vancouver on Friday afternoon and arrives in Toronto on TUESDAY. I will fly Porter back to Logan.

I am told both wifi and cellular service will be extremely limited on the train......but the scenery will be spectacular.

If I tried to buy the same ticket today it would cost
