Speculation: - Lawson Crouse is now available? | HFBoards - NHL Message Board and Forum for National Hockey League

Speculation: Lawson Crouse is now available?

He was playing more on the PP during the 3 seasons prior that he recorded 20+ goals. With less PP time and overall ice time, his point production dropped, but he's still a core player. He's been an integral part of that locker room for such a long time that it would be hard to imagine he'd be easy to acquire.

I think Jack McBain might be a more reasonable trade target, since he's RFA and his negotiations went to training camp the last time.

Imagine how popular he would be in Toronto, with the style he plays.

I would doubt it. I think it would be premature to let him go as Utah is poised to make some good moves this off-season to set themselves up long term. I think it would be wise for them to go after Marner or Ehlers - some sort of high skill wing. Then grab Martone in the draft. Once Martone and Iginla are in the lineup, along with Crouse, they will provide a nice balance to the higher end skill players. You need guys like him come playoff time.

Speaking of Iginla...how's his rehab going?

What do you think McBain would cost ($ and assets)? And how do you see him as a player currently? I’ve wanted him in Ottawa for years now.

I'm not really suggesting they move McBain because he's a good fit for the team they've constructed and he can competently fill in at center when needed.

But I could also see him signing an offer sheet that would make management a bit uncomfortable. With the cap going up and McBain's game a good fit for playoff hockey, it's not unreasonable to throw some money at him. For instance, a 2 year $4.68M per deal would only return a 2nd round pick, but it's likely more than Utah's looking to pay for his body of work so far and it would take him to UFA. If they know they're facing something like that, maybe they opt to try and package him instead.

I made a thread about him near the TDL wanting to dump him off for whatever because he was having a down year. He kind of got his game back after that, so now I'm not really interested in selling low on him.

While I'd prefer to just keep him, I am open to the idea of trading him for a halfway decent price. @HockeyVirus while the 2nd seems like okay value in a vacuum, it doesn't really suit the direction the team is taking.

On the other hand I'm pretty bad at evaluating and proposing trades, so I don't really know.

Would there be any interest in something around Maccelli for Chytil?

I would make that trade. Not sure if management would. There was a rumor as soon as the Canucks acquired Chytil they tried to flip him for Josh Norris immediately afterwards "Hughes best friend".
The Canucks are seriously lacking any center depth in which used to be their strong point. Maccelli seemed like he was progressing as a 50+ point player until this past season. I would take the gamble Chytil/Maccelli but it is also buyers beware with Chytil, he is one hit away from retirement. Chytil is a fantastic player to gain the opposing zone but he also leaves himself extremely vulnerable.

I wouldn't say that Crouse or McBain are any better at hockey than Maccelli, but they represent the size and strength that the team is moving towards and Maccelli doesn't.

Maccelli is very available and Crouse and McBain aren't.

Last Summer - after his third straight 20+ goals season - Lawson Crouse seemed to be an untouchable. After 12 goals and 18 points in 81 games in 2024-25, is he now available? If so, what would be the price tag?

David Pagnotta did an interview with the Leafs Nation recently and in it be briefly mentioned that Crouse has been connected to Toronto.

It makes sense they do need Size on the LW beyond Knies.

Crouse had an AWFUL season last year though so I would be hesitant to pull the trigger
