We can have a thread like this, but it isn't really on the coach. This is an issue with the players.

It wasn't Gallant. It isn't Laviolette.

I don't know what Lavi is supposed to do when the entire vet core of this team can't find it in themselves to give a f***

STOP CODDLING THE VETS!

How hard can it be?

It literally is Lavi's job to get the most out of the vets and he isn't doing that job is he.

This is a coaching AND entitled vets issue. It's not either or, it's both.

Coaching is an issue, the core is the bigger issue.this team needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom and a different organizational philosophy and players mindset

The biggest gripe I have with Laviolette is continuing to pair Miller and Trouba. Look up the definition of insanity.
not a "definition" of insanity. it's an *example* if it, potentially. Einstein never said this btw. It's the dumbest saying in our modern lexicon.

If you’re coaching at the top level of the game and don’t know what to do with out of form players you’re out of your depth

I can't understand these players.

It's clear that the Goodrow salary dump and efforts to move Trouba went over like a lead weight, and this 'memo' likely also wasn't the best way to go about sparking the players.

However, these guys should understand their job is to perform to the best of their ability regardless of what comes out of hockey operations. I'm pretty sure that their contracts outline their basic duties and responsibilities and appears a bunch of these guys have 'quiet quit' because in some perverse sense, Drury hurt their feelings and AFIK none of them have performance outs because their sensibilities were offended.

This has nothing to do with the head coach. If you are going to argue it does then you're expecting Laviolette to perform miracles with the large clumps of excrement presently clogging the roster. I can't even really blame Drury because all of the moves he's made the last few years have been made with the aim of getting the team to the playoffs without completely tearing it down and starting over; whether you agree with his tactics or not.

This is clearly on the players. The only way out of this is get rid of Mika, Kreider, Trouba for starters and then anyone else that thinks their emotions or 'mental health' supersede organization objectives.

I'm tired of watching this shit. Time to hit flush and move on. They might want to start by either putting Trouba in the press box or just telling him to go home. Give Cuylle the captaincy. He at least gives a damn.

Both Laviolette and Gallant do/did things I don't agree with but it's hard to seriously suggest they're "out of their depth" in the NHL.

He could bench Zibanejad, Trouba, Kreider, Miller, half of the rest of the team, whatever, and we as fans would feel better, but I wouldn't actually expect it to change anything. I think the examples where benching your top guys actually works are absolutely dwarfed by the examples where nothing positive happens or things get even worse.

I'm not saying that Zibanejad shouldn't be benched. I just don't think it's a magic bullet that will suddenly get everyone playing hard and instill some sense of accountability that's otherwise lacking.

These guys are who they are. They are professional athletes at the top of their sport. If they need a coach to come in and yell and bench them for them to get moving, I think that says a lot about who they are.
