When reached for comment, Laughton said, "I couldn't be happier."

Canucks are thin at C at the top of lineup now, but I don't know if Laughton brings enough offense to be a fixture in the top-6. I like him though.

The Jets already have a face punching 3C. Does he have 2C upside? If not, I’m not sure I get this - unless Chevy is absolutely stacking the lineup. I wouldn’t pay a ton because he’s not what we need 1st.

Jets absolutely don’t need this player. They need somebody better than Namestnikov, which Laughton is not.

Bottom 6 player? Maybe a 2nd or 3rd?

He is absolutely worth a 1st round pick to a contender, especially with the context that the back half of the first round this year is apparently weaker than normal.

He has 2 years left at a great cap hit. Whoever acquires him gets him for two playoff runs, and they don't have to give up term beyond next year. If a team like Toronto goes for an equivalent player in free agency, the AAV is higher and they probably need to give up 3-4 years of term.

The two firsts rumour from 2023 was a bit much, but a late 1st in a weak draft for a veteran 3rd liner with a low cap hit and ideal term, whose style of play should translate to playoff hockey, yes.

I honestly think it’s the most reasonably add for Toronto. The price should be a 2nd + any prospect not named Minten, Cowan or Danford.

He’s got another year which works well with Minten’s development within the club.

Acquiring Laughton really allows the Leafs to play 3 lines that score and are not defensive disasters.

Knies Matthews Domi
Patches JT Marner
McMann Laughton Nylander

Philly could simply improve on first rounder
They have 3 already. They get a 4th and tell that team they will recoup the worst first rounder.

So B prospect (a center) and their first for Laughton and the worst 1st.

I thought he was more of a winger. Toronto has tried to turn a million wingers into C ever since Kadri left. Never works.

I would Try to get schenn/nelson or package for gourde and oleksiak

Would be kind of funny if Philly gets more 2025 picks. Loading up on one of the weaker drafts from the last few years

Put me in the "suprised to see if he goes this quickly" camp.

While there's obviously a number of teams looking to add in the middle, and Laughton screams "this is the type of guy you need to win in the playoffs", I get the sense that there's a number of centres available that are either better than him, or viewed similarly.

He's probably not the "#1 target" on any team's trade board... so you kind of have to wait to see how the deadline begins to shake out, and what happens with some of the bubble teams like the Islanders.

Of the top of my head... Brock Nelson, Trent Fredeiric, Charlie Coyle, Ryan Strome, Ryan O'Reilly, Yanni Gourde, maybe Brayden Schenn; all potentially avaialble to also play a role similar to what Laughton would.

Yes, it makes it harder for team to take away a line.

Domi and Matthews have great chemistry and Knies is blossoming. Matthews tends to play a more simple and heavier game away from Mitch.

Patches could be replaced with another reasonable pick up. JT and Marner can score and this would be a defensively responsible group.

McMann guy can fly and rip it. Nylander can carry the line and feast on other 3rd line match ups. Laughton seems like the perfect fit. Defensively solid, can move the puck and bang in a few greasies.

I don’t see the Leafs trading for rentals.
