20. Winnipeg Jets

Current Value: $358 mil.
Revenue 2013-2014: $103 mil.
Operating Income 2013-2014: $3.3 mil.

The Jets have sold out every game at MTS Centre since moving to Winnipeg from Atlanta two years ago, but with no NBA tenant, a relatively low fee for its local television rights, and not much in the way of concert revenue, the Jets must make the playoffs to ensure a big profit and the team has missed the Stanley Cup tournament the past three seasons.

Tickets sales alone should amount to about $60 million for the Jets (14000 seats x $100 avg ticket price x 45 games). Then add in luxury boxes, TV/radio deal, advertising/sponsorships, concessions, league revenue, merchandise sales. All that only adds up to another $43 million? I'm not convinced...

Holy ****, Phillips Arena is third in the US?!? :amazed:
I remember, during the last weeks of the Thrashers' existance, all the talk that Phillips could make more money hosting concerts, wrestling, etc, than they could off the Thrashers. And that was the reason ASG wanted to get rid of the Thrashers.

What does having an NBA tenant for MTS Centre have to do with the Jets value as a franchise or concert revenue for that matter.

Is Forbes ranking the Jets or MTS Centre?

If the same ownership group controls the arena, it includes that value as well (and arena debt).

So teams that don't own their own arena rank ahead of us?

09. Detroit
10. Pittsburgh
12. Edmonton
13. Calgary
14. San Jose
17. Minnesota
18. Anaheim

MTS Centre ranks as one of the most profitable arenas in North America. I really have to question Forbes formula to have this taken into account & still place us so low.

Teams that own their own arena:

01. Toronto Maple Leafs (Larry Tanenbaum)
02. New York Rangers (James Dolan)
03. Montreal Canadiens (Geoff Molson)
04. Chicago Blackhawks (Rocky Wirtz)
05. Vancouver Canucks (Francesco Aquilini)
06. Boston Bruins (Jeremy Jacobs)
07. Philadelphia Flyers (Ed Snyder)
08. Los Angeles Kings (Philip Anschutz)
11. Washington Capitals (Ted Leonsis)
15. Dallas Stars (Tom Hicks 50%)
16. Ottawa Senators (Eugene Melnyk)
19. Colorado Avalanche (Stan Kroenke)
20. Winnipeg Jets (Mark Chipman)
26. Tampa Bay Lightning (Jeffrey Vinik)

We Are also 1 of only 12 teams that outright own their AHL franchise.

I agree. If they are ranking the companies that own the franchises then they have to look at TNSE not the Jets and MLSE not the Leafs. This seems inconsistent.
