I have a morbid curiosity about hockey players (NHL, or otherwise) who were the last surviving representatives of their kind. For instance:

Teddy Saunders: The last-living original-era Ottawa Senator (Died: 2002)
Bill Benson: The last-living New York/Brooklyn American (Died: 2012)
Tommy Gorman: The last-living founder of the NHL (Died: 1961)
Arthur Brooks: The last-living player of the inaugural NHL season?? (Died: 1987)

Et cetera und so weiter...

I'm sure we can compile a lengthy list of "last living members of [various] Stanley Cup winning teams", "last living member of [insert defunct team here], "last living players born in [insert decade]", and any other notable "last survivors" of interest that may not immediately come to mind.

Eventually we'll have a last living player that played without helmet.

Maybe even a last living player to fight in a NHL game.

Last living player to be an original rover.

Last living player that played during the red line era.

Last living player that played when they were ties.

Last living player that played for the Montreal Maroons (probably none?).

Cool thread.

I did a little more digging (I'm at work right now- so I don't want to spend too much time researching) and found this handy resource: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Marc87/HockeyII

I also found:
Aubrey Webster: The last-living member of the Philadelphia Quakers (Died: 1999)
Gerry Geran: The presumably last-living member of the Montreal Wanderers (Died: 1981- Some players have an unknown year of death)
George McNaughton: The last-living member of the Quebec Bulldogs (Died: 1991)
Harold Darragh: The last-living member of the Pittsburgh Pirates (Died: 1993)
and
Magnus Goodman: The last-living member of the Winnipeg Falcons 1920 Olympic gold medal winning team (Died: 1991)

I'm currently trying to figure out the last living professional hockey player to serve in World War I.

Not having much luck.

Who was the last living NHA player? Also, last living Soviet player that won their first gold in 1954? Surely we could have an answer on the latter one by now.

Jeff Malone was the last surviving member of the Quebec Tigers of the NHA, IIRC. Died in 1981.

Last surviving member of the Quebec Hockey Club in the NHL I think was George McNaughton, died 1991, aged 93.

That would be Hobie Kitchen with a missing date of death. He was apparently living homeless on the streets of New York in the 30s/40s, so I'm not too sure if his death will ever be found. Sad story.

Clarence "Teddy" Saunders passed away on May 21, 2002, making him the last surviving member of the original Ottawa Senators.

I have Hockey Hall of Fame member Bill Cook, who passed away on May 5, 1986 at age 90.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cook

He joined the Kingston Frontenacs' junior hockey team in 1913 and played for two seasons before his career was interrupted by the First World War.[5]

He volunteered to join the Canadian Expeditionary Force in 1915,[7] and served with the Canadian Field Artillery for nearly two years in France and another at the Belgian front.[8] Cook participated in several engagements, including at Ypres, the Somme, Vimy Ridge and Hill 70.[7] He then fought into 1919 in Siberia as part of the allied intervention in the Russian Civil War.[9]

This is the list I'm using: http://www.sihrhockey.org/lest_we_forget.cfm?f=n
Searching any player born before 1901.

After a bit of research, I'm lead to believe the following:

Red Horner: The last-living NHL player to play in the 1920's (Died: 2005)
Milt Schmidt: The last-living NHL player to play in the 1930's (Still living)
