In all due respect, who gives a ****? I truely only care about one trophy and I don't care if the Kings players get accolades or (meaningless) trophies. Most of us like to criticize the articles written by the voters and suddenly all of a sudden we care who they vote for on these popularity contest?
good point Buddy, but these trophies i actually do care about.
i still feel that Quick should have won the Hart two seasons ago, without him LA doesn't even make the playoffs let alone win the SC. he wasn't even nominated. the awards are based on regular season performance, so the SC run doesn't factor into the equation. back to my point though, without Quick keeping LA in the hunt they don't qualify for the playoffs.
Kopitar for years has been 'mentioned' as a candidate. he still hasn't broken through and won. as of now it appears he's the third horse in a race that should be a coin toss between himself and Bergeron.
Doughty can't get a sniff, because he doesn't rack up 60+ points any longer. he isn't a one trick pony like Subban, or struggle like Karlsson and OEL very often in the D zone. Drew plays a full 200 feet and is easily one of the top 5 best all around D men in the world, but he doesn't score enough. to me DD ranks along D Keith, S Weber and R Suter as the top all around D men in the NHL. there is no disputing any of them in any section of the ice. all of them can play the shutdown role, score goals, play PP/PK and log tons of ice time.
Quick....he won't get the Vezina until he can play without injury. even before that though no matter what Henrik L does he will continue to be the front runner.
i guarantee these awards mean a lot to these guys. it is an acknowledgment of their dedication and professionalism. to be overlooked and in my opinion even slighted, i guarantee it burns them personally. i know it would piss me off
LA players winning the awards further strengthens and legitimizes Kings hockey - period. the team wins, they compete for SC's and win the major trophies it changes the culture of not just LA Kings hockey but the NHL landscape.
