and also:

He was untradeable last summer at 3.5x1, and now he’s worth 3.8x4? Oof

  • 2019-Sep-24 Traded from St. Louis Blues with Dominik Bokk and round 7 pick in the 2021 draft (Nikita Guslistov) to Carolina Hurricanes for Justin Faulk and round 5 pick in the 2020 draft (Pavel Novak)
  • 2020-Sep-12 Traded from Carolina Hurricanes to Montreal Canadiens for round 5 pick in the 2020 draft (Ben Meehan)
  • 2023-Jul-01 Traded from Montreal Canadiens to Washington Capitals for round 3 pick in the 2024 draft and round 7 pick in the 2024 draft
  • 2024-Mar-07 Traded from Washington Capitals to Toronto Maple Leafs for round 3 pick in the 2024 draft and round 4 pick in the 2025 draft

I don't think this is the definition of untradeable

Conveniently leaving out he came with 50% retention in the deal to Washington and a further 50% in the deal to Toronto.

Free agency proves Gm's are morons. They refuse to trade for these guys but as soon as they become free agents they can't help themselves. For example, Jack Campbell had good AHL numbers but was untradeable even with assets and retention. Then Talbot and Stolarz get lit up by Edmonton in the playoffs and teams are drooling to sign them.

Untradeable at 3.5 million. Which he literally wasn’t. Maybe don’t talk about comprehension.

The poster said untradeable at 3.5x1 last year which is true. He got traded at 1.75x1 and then 0.875x1.

I don’t blame you for being mad since this is a catastrophic contract, but the poster is factually correct.

They must've wanted a veteran defenseman on the left side to pair up with one of their kids on the right (Clarke or Spence). It makes sense, but they could've brought back fan favorite Martinez for practically the same AAV and on a much shorter deal, instead.

No, he said he was untradeable at $3.5 million, and he was right. Words matter, you are wrong
