Crazy. There was about a half season where he looked like he was going to be a future star.... Guess not?

I'd be happy if Oil took a swing. 825 contract and expiring.

Can someone tell me how he ended up in AHL and waivers though? He seems like a promising player with a great shot? Lazy, uncoachable, drug user? What are we talking here?lol

At one time I thought that he was a solid young NHL talent, what happened to him?

Fractured his clavicle on the second day of training camp. He came back and was sent to the AHL for a conditioning stint. Played good in his first game then struggled as he's obviously rusty from missing training camp and a third of the season.

This is a similar to the RHP situation earlier this year. Obviously, Kaliyev has a better pedigree than RHP, so maybe that gets him claimed.

Injured, see below.

Sorry, RHP? What are the knocks on Kaliyev? He's young and cheap enough that I suspect that he'll get claimed.

He hasnt played an NHL game this year and was scratched for a lot of last year. He has deficiencies in his game but also has huge upside.
Word in the offseason from some was that he fell out of favor because of not fitting in with the team off the ice and not practicing hard enough but not as much to do with his performance in games.
I hope someone picks him up and puts him in the right situation. He needs a change of scenery.

I don’t think he’s lazy or anything like that but his work away from the puck was never going to be his strong suit. Feels like his development and then injury has kind of derailed him.

He can shoot it and has clear offensive skill but he’s yet another guy who either needs to be placed on a very specific situation to leverage what he does well or he’s not going to be that useful.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he has a Daniel Sprong type career, minus the bad attitude crap. I think he will get claimed but he’s a project at this point and the excitement of his name far exceeds what he actually is. How many good NHL teams have a role for him? And sure, he might get claimed by a bad team but he will have a pretty short window to actually confirm he is what people think he can be…it’s a quick drop into waiver-land cycle.
