Who has a higher ceiling?

To me this looks like another opportunity to shit on Jack Hughes. Votes are gonna be close to 100-0 for AL, #1 reason being no team owns his rights yet. Once he lands on a team the haters will come out. #2 reason AL is still in the juniors so there’s all the potential still left, maybe he scores a hat trick in each nhl game.

No offense but Jersey is one of the teams with the least "haters" so this victim complex doesnt really do much. Maybe if he was a Leaf or Bruin you could say that

Even before the draft last year most saw AL as the clear higher ceiling/potential.

I could be talked into saying Hughes had a higher floor though, but thats harder to judge

My take leading up to the '19 draft for the '01 born players was Lafreniere would be #3 behind Hughes and Kakko. I've since changed that opinion and put Lafreniere #1 among the '01 draft class.

So there is no basis for voting for AL?

Or it's comparing the two most recent (in Lafreniere's case, potential) 1st overall picks?

The only reason Devils fans seem to think everything is picking on Hughes is because he's struggling. If he was tearing it up and someone made this poll, would you think it was about crapping on Hughes?

I'd tend to say Lafreniere probably has the higher "ceiling". His edge in size and what that size affords him to do in his style of play could bring more to the table. Potentially a more "dominant" and "complete" skillset. Whereas Hughes has always projected with a bit of a narrower skillset, as a speedy little playmaker. I think there's still a real argument that Jack Hughes might yet end up the more "valuable" player on positional value, if he does end up a center long-term, and Lafrienere does not. On raw absolute "ceiling" however, between two extremely skilled players, i think Lafreniere's tools/size and more diversified skillset wins on "upside". Gives him more different ways to beat you, with an answer to pretty much any type of game.

If he was tearing it up, this poll wouldn’t exist, at least not by this poster (maybe by a devils fan)

The results would obviously be different if Hughes was tearing it up

ok guys, let's temper expectations and wait until Lafreniere has played against men
