Can't wear 22. Legendary Thomas Pock wore that number, off limits Laf
I was convinced Pock could become something. Different time, though, and the game was changing.

I still maintain that the organization f***ed up in not giving Jarkko Immonen more of a shot. Dude was a star in every European league he went on to play in, and still is at 38. Not a great skater but smart and damn good with the puck. He could have made it.

Anyone wearing 22 is an insult to Dan Boyle. No one can top him after his legendary post-season interview.

Put that thing on loop in the MoMA

Holy shit we’ve had so many 22s and I barely remember any of them

I was Brian Boyle’s #1 fan and still forgot he wore 22 lmao

My actual prediction:

I am guessing Lafreniere chose #11 because his birthday is October 11, and that he doesn't actually care about number aesthetics. So in lieu of 11, he will choose his new number based on the birthday of one of his parents, grandparents, or someone else important in his life. So his number will be from 1-31.

This means that his number will be one of the following, which excludes (many) current Rangers and retired numbers:

4
5
6
12*
13
14*
15
17*
21*
22
25*
26*
27
28
29*

*I am guessing Laf will be given preference over the players who currently wear/are assigned these numbers, but I could be wrong.

You can also add 16 and 18 in case Strome and Staal aren't on the team next season.

One more hot take: If you convert Lafreniere's birthday to the Julian Calendar, you get September 28th, 2001. So Lafreniere will in fact choose 28.

I don’t like 22 because it reminds me of the most milquetoast players ever (Sedins)
I’d like 8, strip Trouba of his number lol
17 or 18, Fast is probably gone, but Staal is a legend
71 or 91 would be cool
Maybe 87 or 97
My number is 96 and I think it’s an underrated hockey number not many ppl wear but looks cool

I always felt like double numbers tend to look more like a star/core player.

When I see 12, it feels like a third line grinder's numbers.

I believe he's worn 9, 10, 11, 12, 19, 20, 22, 41 and 71 in his career.

Obviously 9, 10, 11, 19 and 20 are off the table. So that would leave 12, 22, 41 and 71 as familiar numbers for him.

41 Ortmeyer's number, would he let that happen lol i think 71 would be fun and watch Pierre compare him to Malkin just because of that #

Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Bourque, Lindros, Lemieux, Bossy, shit ton of ton of great players who wore double numbers

I was doing Honor Guard for a game and saw Pock coming onto the elevator as I was getting off, he was not a happy camper.

Immonen is an interesting case. In some ways I think it was either him or Dubinsky, and the Rangers went with Dubinsky.

There were concerns about his skating, but he had performed well and produced at every stop prior to the NHL. But I think he was caught in a weird situation where he wasn't bumping anyone from the top six, and they didn't seem him as a fit for the bottom six. Once they brought Cullen into the mix, it felt like the window closed pretty quickly.

In some ways, minus draft position, I almost feel like Immonen's situation wasn't all that different than Andersson's in many ways.
