More 2016 NHL Draft Coverage: Frozen Royalty's second story for Draft Day notes that the Los Angeles Kings' have a huge hole in their player development pipeline—goaltending. They literally have no prospect who's ready to play in their minor league system. As such, they need to re-stock—the need is acute...urgent.

Sooo...the Kings are targeting goaltenders for this year's draft. But don't get the wrong idea here...for more, check out:

LA Kings Are Targeting Goalies In 2016 NHL Draft…But That Probably Doesn’t Mean What You Think

Can't figure out the pick for the life of me, based on Yanetti's information. Went all the way back to 2012 draft, and Matt Murray and Freddy Anderson were both taken immediately before the Kings' 3rd round pick - the pick they eventually forfeited to Edmonton as part of the Penner trade.

Now I'm going to have to go back and figure out who the one who got away is.

Went through the 2014-2009 drafts and the only goalies taken in the middle rounds that was roughly five picks before the Kings and have played games in the NHL are:

Juuse Saros - 2013 - Nashville, 4th Rnd, 4 picks earlier
Marek Mazenec - 2012 - Nashvile, 6th Rnd 2 picks earlier
Petr Mrazek - 2010 - Detroit, 5th Rnd 7 picks earlier

My bet is Mrazek but he could very well be talking about Mazenec.

... but then "successful in the NHL"? Mrazek MIGHT fit that bill, but we're talking about a draft 6 years ago, not "a couple".

It was Hellebucyk. Yanetti named him specifically in one of his pre draft interviews.

I bet it was Saros. Just seems to fit the scenario Yanetti was describing.

Only Mrazek has had success in the NHL. From what he said was that they had success in the NHL , its either Hellebuyck and he said it to low for 5 picks or it could be Linus Ullmark who showed success this year.

It's very likely Hellebuyck, with Yannetti's memory being a bit off on how many picks later the Kings draft choice was. He mentioned how much he liked him in this pre-draft 2014 interview.

Yanetti mentioned Hellebuyck to me, but on a separate topic. He would've been at least a bit more specific under those circumstances. Not only that, he doesn't fit what Yanetti told me.
