Kings News: LA Kings sign Jamie McBain to 1 year deal.

I thought McBain did a great job last year for the Kings, glad to have him back
 
Gotta wonder where they see him fitting in? Keeping Voynov's seat warm during suspension/recovery? I assume Forbort is the #7 going forward.

Me thinks you're right. McBain can skate and shoot and play the second pairing and won't consume a ridiculous amount of cap space like a Franson would.

And very few affordable options out there who are right handed dmen. Helps that he's also familiar with the system and fit in. He could contribute more with a full camp.

Was never opposed to seeing McBain brought back, and I think he still has room to improve. He turned 27 earlier this year, had 9 points in only 26 games while averaging only 12+ mins per game.
 
Solid signing here. I agree with others. He's likely Voynov's fill in for the time being. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Voynov returns though. But if anything, the Kings will have options.


IMO, this is also probably the last signing for the Kings in the summer (outside of RFAs and possibly veterans to play in the AHL)
 
love it. give him some PP time this year, don't bench him every second game and he'll thrive. seriously under-utilized last year by Sutter in favour of his vets (Greene mostly).

McBain is a pretty good player if his minutes are controlled; pure offensive dman. Good deal for us and good for him, glad to see him get paid.
 
Glad to see McBain back... he did well for the Kings last year.

Just hope this doesn't mean Dean's done with the defense is all.

Good, he was very serviceable last season and definitely had a scoring touch. Worst case scenario you put him on waivers and he either clears and can go to Ontario (have to learn not to type Manchester) and not count against the cap or someone picks him up which would hardly be the end of the world.
 
I'm actually glad to hear this. McBain doesn't get a lot of love, and he's no world beater for sure, but he's serviceable and he's actually one of our best passing defensemen. Our power play was noticeably better when he was out there.
